My name is Mimi and I am a sweet girl. Currently I am in foster care getting loves but looking for my furever home. I am FIV positive and need to be the only cat or in a home with other FIV positive cats. More information about FIV

What is FIV?
The Feline Immune-Defificency Virus is a viral infection that attacks the immune system.

What is the average lifespan of an FIV+ cat?
15-20 years!! According to a 2015 study by Purdue University, they "were unable to demonstrate a difference in lifespan between FIV positive and FIV negative cats.

Can a FIV+ cat infect my cat?
Yes, FIV is typically spread from cat to cat via a deep bite wound. Depending on the cat's temperament, they can cohabitate with an FIV negative cat. If the cats do not right, the virus cannot spread.

Can my dog get infected?
No, FIV can only be transmitted to other felines.

How much more will I have to spend if I get an FIV+ cat?
Not much! As long as FIV+ cats are kept healthy with a low stress environment, regular vet visits (every 8-12 months) a good diet and immune boosters like lysine. The cost of an FIV+ cat will be similar to a normal cat.
