Hi there,
My name is Delores, and I am an almost 8-year-old, medium-sized, 37-pound, lab mix. I was trying my best to survive living in the forest before AHeinz57 came and rescued me. Living in the forest was not easy for me and I have the scars to prove it. My hard start to life has made me slow to trust people and leery of other dogs. I do well with my pack, especially my good buddy Marco, but since he was adopted, Howard and I have grown closer. I get excited when I get to play with him in the yard.
The volunteers would describe me as shy, sweet, and cautious. My tail wags with excitement when I see people I know, coming to see me. I take treats gently from them, but I am still hesitant to be petted. I even allowed some of them to brush me and change my collar, which were big steps, and not so easy for me. The shelter life is so much better than the forest, but I would still love to be in a home to call my own. Since being here at the shelter, I have learned to play nicely with other dogs, and may even do well with another dog in the home, as long as I have proper introductions to them. The thought of living somewhere where there is peace and quiet, sounds just lovely. Since arriving at AHeinz57, the majority of my pack have been adopted and I hear the volunteers talk about how all of them are doing so well. I know if given the chance I would too! I would love to have that opportunity, but I will wait for a person that is willing to be patient and consistent with me.
I know I'm not the most bubbly, happy-go-lucky, social dog that many people are wanting, but life didn't start easy for me, and because of that, I will take time. It will take multiple meetings with me and even then, I might not be the most social, but I promise to love you for rescuing me. All of us forest dogs have our little quirks, but that is what makes us special. Like my forest buddies, I keep my kennel clean and love my beds. I feel so warm and safe when laying in it. I would do best in an adult home since kids are too noisy and loud for me and it can be really scary. A fenced yard would be the absolute best and will help keep me safe in my new yard and keep me from wandering away. Unfortunately, I would not be able to be my complete self when living in an apartment, but I appreciate the thought of wishing me luck in finding the perfect home for me! My promise to you, if you able give me the opportunity to be part of your family, is that you will get to be part of an amazing transformation that so many other forest dog parents' have been a witness too. We are a unique bunch but worth the time, love, patience, and consistency put in. Plus, you will have a building full of volunteers that will be there whenever you need any guidance! My best buddy at the shelter will also be willing to be of any help before and even after adoption. If you are interested in coming to the rescue, to meet, and see what I am like, please fill out an adoption application.
Until then, I will be waiting for you and the chance to have a home to call my own.
Love,
Delores
