Note: Being a resourceful little lady, Sweet Pea has crafted her very own letter to share with you.

Dear Kind Person,

I'm following the suggestion of the nice Rescue House (aka RH) lady who is fostering me, and she suggested I write you a letter to tell you a bit about my sweet tuxedo self. So back when I first came to RH, I'd already been through quite a bit, but RH and I thought I'd won the kitty lottery because I was adopted! In fact, I felt doubly lucky because the family adopted my brother, too! Unfortunately, my brother began to bully me recently. I don't really understand why he changed-but I'm a cat, not a therapist! As you can imagine, this really affected my self-esteem. After a few months, I was pretty traumatized. I began hiding all of the time, so my bro couldn't find me and pounce on me. While this helped me hone my survival skills, it deeply impacted my feelings of security. My previous person realized this just would not do, and we all agreed that it was in my best interest to return to RH.

Reader, perhaps you're thinking something like: "This cat has been through a lot, but I don't want to adopt a cat simply because she has a sad past. I want a cat I can cuddle with and pet and stuff." While I prefer shorter snuggles, you are welcome to pick me up and put me on your lap for a quick cuddle when it strikes your fancy. I think a few minutes is the perfect amount of time for both of us-we will feel restored afterwards, but it won't interfere too much with us getting on with our days. (Basically, I like affection on my terms, which makes perfect sense because I am a kitty, and that's how things go with us!) Beyond the oh-so important canoodling, I can support you in other ways too. I am very focused on my career, and I would appreciate the opportunity to apply to become your assistant! (If you don't work from home, I can still help with responding to personal emails and such-I just wanted to make it clear I am an excellent office cat right off the bat and don't mind putting in long hours in case you can do your job from our house.) I promise to take my position seriously and keep you company as you toil away in front of the computer. (Since I am a feline, please don't be surprised or hold it against me if I fall asleep on the job on occasion!) I tend to bond intensely with one person (that will be you, of course), and I thrive on routine and stability. I don't enjoy a lot of noise as unfamiliar sounds stress me out. Ideally, our home would be a refuge from the chaos that is the world outside our door. One last thing: I am slow to get comfortable, so I am banking on you being a patient, loving person who will let me come out of my shell at my own pace. You will be handsomely rewarded if you do. I truly have an endless reserve of love in my heart for you!

I am not comfortable with other cats and need to be an only kitty. Please no dogs or young children-I really need a peaceful, quiet home to rest and recover. (Well-behaved tweens and teens might be okay.)

I really hope the home that has eluded me is yours and that you are the gentle soul who is ready to help me on my healing journey. Your kindness will be rewarded and returned tenfold!

All my love,
Sweet Pea
