Meet Charlie!

Charlie is a 5-year-old Border Collie Mix who is looking to find her forever home. She loves all types of affection including belly rubs, playing tug, kisses, and she even loves being held and cuddled. When she is comfortable enough, she might even let you use her as a pillow! She loves all types of toys, but she especially loves to play with ropes, bones, stuffed animals, and plays fetch. She does love to shake squeaky toys and will even try to tear the squeaky toy apart.

Charlie would do best in a home where she can be the only pet, as she does not like to share with other animals in the home due to guarding her food, toys and her space. She is VERY food motivated, and mealtimes are pretty exciting for her, so she would do best not having to worry about that in her new home, with another animal. She does not have a prey drive towards outside animals such as squirrels or rabbits, but she is quite reactive to dogs through a fence. When leash walking, she has yet to encounter another dog, but she would prefer to steer clear of that type of situation since she is still practicing walking on a leash, since walks still make her nervous. If walks were worked into her routine, she would get more comfortable, and would be better walking on leash, but slow introductions will be needed. Due to her becoming nervous on walks, we will be requiring a fenced in yard, to help her feel comfortable and to help get exercise in the comfort of her own home. Charlie has been introduced to children around the age of 10 and up, and has done well playing with them, but she would still need to have proper introductions to any children living in the home or with those who frequently visit, to make sure that everybody gets along well.

Charlie is fully potty trained and will give cues/tell you when she needs to go outside. She has had only a few accidents in the home during situations where she was scared but has done well otherwise. When at home alone, Charlie is able to be left to roam and not be inside of a kennel. When hanging out with the foster family during the day, she likes to sleep in a dog bed, but at night, she loves to cuddle up with her humans. When new people come over to the home, she is excited to meet and greet them, as long as they are willing to pet her!

Charlie LOVES people and is very smart. She knows a lot of different commands that were not taught by her current foster, but everything that they have taught her, Charlie has learned almost immediately. Charlie has done fine on all types of floors including hardwood and carpet, but laminate floors are kind of slippery for her if she gets to moving too fast or is just really excited. She even does well on stairs!

Charlie does have anxiety and would need to have a family that is going to be able to spend time in the home with her. When Charlie first stayed with her foster, she
would not go outside to go to the bathroom and would have to have them standing outside in the yard with her, just to go potty. Over the past few months, the foster family has been working with Charlie to the point where the new family will be able to be near the door or even standing inside as long as she can see you. Charlie can be a digger in backyards and will try to get out if left complete unsupervised, but if you say her name when she starts, she will stop and walk away. Charlie is a very good listener and listens to any command. She is good about getting her nails trimmed and enjoys getting brushed, but she has not had full baths, but has done waterless/dry shampoos and has sat well for it. She loves sitting in the sun outside or even sitting inside, just watching out the window. One thing about Charlie is that she does not enjoy car rides in any form or even going near a car. We think that once Charlie has had the right training she could eventually do well riding in a car.

If you think Charlie would be a great addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application, on our website, to be considered for her.

Please know that are still learning new things about our foster/shelter dogs every day, so some information may change overtime, and some information may stay the same. Thank you!
