Fonda, the Shiba Inu, has been through a lot. She has the scars to prove it. But, she has not lost her spirit in spite of her hardships. She is a sweet girl that takes time to trust people. Going for walks and exploring outside are some of her favorite things in life. A typical Shiba, Fonda is an independent, and strong-willed. Since one of her main goals is to escape, a very secure 6ft privacy fence will be required to adopt her. She does well with other dogs of all sizes and would benefit from another confident canine friend in her home. We need to keep Fonda close, so she will not be adopted out of state. Because of her fears and insecurities, there can be NO children under the age of 18 in her new home. If you have a calm, patient home and would like to put in the time to help Fonda learn how to be a confident girl, please fill out an application at

Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 6 years old; homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as housetraining and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
