Meet Stitch - Your New Favorite Comedian 🐾
This little guy has us in stitches - and we think he'll have you in them too! Stitch is an 8-month-old tricolor Australian Shepherd mix, about 25 pounds of wiry, athletic, pure personality. With his striking markings and soulful eyes, he's as handsome as he is hilarious. (He's purported to be a cattle dog mix, but his foster mom sees zero cattle dog characteristics).
His Story
Stitch's journey to us wasn't easy. He escaped from his previous home and spent a couple of cold, hard weeks on his own before he was finally trapped and brought to safety. His owner ultimately decided to surrender him, and now Stitch is ready for his next chapter. Along the way he picked up a wariness around being grabbed or approached directly - likely a remnant of his past - but the loving, goofy, cuddly dog underneath showed up almost immediately in foster care. This boy is resilient, and he is ready.
His Personality
Stitch is the kind of dog who will make you laugh every single day. He does zoomies like it's his job, shamelessly instigates the other dogs into play, and then curls up next to you like a little shadow when the fun is done. He follows his foster mom from room to room and loves a good snuggle. He was a little timid at first - but that dissolved almost immediately once he realized he was safe and loved.
What He's Great At
-Playing with other dogs (gentle with smaller pups, delightfully persistent with the older ones!)
-Keeping himself entertained with a good chew or puzzle
-Walking nicely on leash without pulling
-Housetraining - he is doing great once he knows the routine
-Making everyone around him smile
What He's Working On
Stitch has learned that being grabbed or approached directly means something unpleasant is coming. He will run if you reach for his collar - but here's the thing: he will also walk right up to you for cuddles on his own terms. This isn't a fearful dog. This is a dog who learned a specific coping mechanism that he no longer needs - he just doesn't know that yet. With patience, positive reinforcement, and a gentle approach, Stitch will learn that hands reaching toward him mean love, not chaos. He's already making progress every day.
His Perfect Home
Stitch would thrive with:
-A fenced yard - this is a must. He needs space to zoom safely and an escape-proof environment while he builds trust
-Other playful dogs who can keep up with his energy and enthusiasm
-A calm, patient household - ideally without young children who may grab or startle him while he's still healing
-An owner who appreciates a funny, smart, energetic companion who will also be their velcro dog at the end of the day
-Someone committed to working with him on recall and collar confidence - the payoff will be enormous
Australian Shepherds are brilliant dogs, and Stitch is no exception. He will keep you on your toes, make you laugh, and love you fiercely. He just needs someone to give him the chance to be exactly who he is - a joyful, silly, loving little dog who is ready to stitch himself right into your heart. 🧵
Could that be you?
