Meet Skye!

Skye is a beautiful young mama who has finished raising her puppies and is now ready to find a forever home of her very own. Skye is a 2 year old Blue Heeler mix. Like Blue Heelers and other herding breeds, Skye enjoys her exercise and has medium-to-high energy levels.

Skye loves toys, enjoys playtime (including a game of fetch) and is just as happy settling in for a good cuddle. Skye walks great on a leash, but does like to stop and sniff! She loves doing puzzles, lick mats and doing nosework before bed.

Skye is housetrained, but will tear up a blanket if she gets bored. She is very quiet in her kennel and will go right in with a treat. Skye is a very smart girl - she knows some basic commands: sit, stay, lay down and leave it. We are still working on off and tap. Skye has been taking obedience classes at Zoom Room and is an Obedience 1 graduate!

She did best with a slow, thoughtful introduction to the resident dogs in her previous foster home. After a week or two, once routines were in place - including separate feeding and managing high-value toys - she did well with them. Once she settled in, she enjoyed playing and wrestling with a foster puppy, sharing toys and even playing tug-of-war with her.

Skye does have some unpredictable resource guarding behaviors. She is slighly reactive to other dogs, but this has improved with training. When she visits the rescue, she likes to run with the other dogs and may do okay with a fur sibling. A meet and greet would be required for all furry residents (and humans) before adoption. Her foster mom is still keeping a watchful eye to find out potential triggers.

Skye does like kids and seems to understand that she should be gentle with little ones. However, her rough and rowdy playstyle suggests she may knock littles over when playing. Throwing toys around is very fun for her. Because of her playful energy, she may do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children. When excited, Skye has will occasionally mouth on hands, but she has mostly stopped this behavior with training!

Skye would really enjoy an active home. She loves going on walks and playing outside. Because she is a younger, high energy girl, we are requiring a fence for her at this time. She will get wound up without enough exercise.

Skye is working on becoming her best self with training and thriving in her foster home but would love a home to call her own. If you are interested in meeting Skye, you can fill out an application on our website!
