Meet Winston!
Winston came to us as a stray that had not been claimed, and has since been looking to find his forever home. He is a 3-year-old mixed breed boy who has been super friendly with such a sweet demeanor. He is not one to be shy around new people, and will most likely look to you to give him some kind words, some scratches on his neck, and maybe even a treat for good measure!
Due to his friendly nature, he would love the chance to meet any humans residing in the home, but may do best in a home with older children due to his strength. He would still need proper introductions to any dogs that are in the home or who frequently visit to make sure that it will be the right fit. However, smaller dogs and cats would not be the best fit as we've come to notice that he tends to mount other dogs (both male and female) and thinks that cats are just fun squeaky toys.
Winston gets very excited when the opportunity arises to go out to the play yards or even to go on a field trip away from the rescue, so he wants to get wherever he is going, fast. We are working on leash training, because to be honest.. he needs it. Winston is a little powerhouse and extremely strong! Those walking him will need an iron grip and experience with planting your heels in the ground. One day he will walk on a leash like the gentleman he is, but will benefit with some further training. He is very treat motivated, so he should learn quick! Because of his strength and his recent bi-lateral knee surgery in February of this year, he will require a fenced in yard. He has recovered like a champ, but we are still restricting him to moderate activity for now to ensure he doesn't reverse all of the progress he has made.
