Living in a shelter for two years is heartbreaking, distressing and painful for any dog but when you are only four years old it is a tragedy! Many of you have seen my Humane Society Bio over the years so I want to tell you all the reasons why I Squeaky deserve a full time life outside the shelter. I was found wandering the streets of Camp Verde as a stray in October 2024. I was adopted shortly after arriving at the shelter but the child I lived with was allergic to pets, so I was surrendered. My adoptive family shared that I was good with kids and yet no one has come to rescue me.
I am 65 pounds of playfulness, affection, intelligence, curiosity and my stout medium sized body enjoys being active outdoors. I love soft stuffy toys that squeak, splash pools, plating fetch, neighborhood walks, canyon hikes, splashing in the river, watching TV, hugging, and sleeping on a soft bed. I am a joyful funny guy that thinks I'm a lap dog. I am ready to bring you daily belly laughs in return for daily belly rubs!
One of the shelter volunteers has been my foster mom taking me home for days at a time. We traveled between VOC and Phoenix throughout the summer for a couple of days every week or so. My time out of the shelter is invaluable and I love being in her home as it's quieter than the shelter and I can relax and my spirits are brightened. I am a rule follower at heart, so I do not chew on anything but my toys, I don't mark anywhere and have an awesome time playing with new toys. This past week I had first time fun with a puzzle that hid my food...what a crazy concept! It kept me occupied for 45 minutes when I was home alone. I am a huge snuggle fan at heart as I become very attached and loyal when I get to know people who show me love and kindness. My volunteer foster family can tell you lots more about my personality.
My foster family hoped that I and their other rescue dog would be best friends but that didn't happen. I need to be the only dog in your home with a fenced yard as I have had no experience living with another dog. Since I have been a shelter resident for a while I need time to check people out, so you may need to visit me a few times so we can learn about each other. I make strong attachments with people that make me feel comfy. If I don't know someone well, I may bark, but once we are together for a while all is good, calm, and relaxed. Staff at the shelter are working with me to come when barking by saying ‘Squeaky come, no bark' and I am listening in return for a little kibble treat. I take treats softly from your hand, know sit, and come to you when called.
I am neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, house broken and a volunteer favorite!
Away from shelter stressors, I am a relaxed, calm dog and a kind, happy, thankful, and faithful companion. I have so much to offer to someone who is willing to see me as the lovable great dog that I am, and I would be ecstatic to have a forever sleepover with you! Please let me be your exceptional, bright, and special best forever dog.
