Leonard is a 2.5-year-old neutered male Heeler/Hound mix with striking red and white coloring and beautiful speckling that makes him truly stand out.
Leonard came from a situation where he had very little positive interaction with people, so he is still learning to trust and feel comfortable in a home. He can be avoidant with people at first and will need a patient, calm owner who understands that he may need a longer decompression period. With time, consistency, and some tasty treats, he may begin to come around.
Leonard would do best in a home with a calm, well-mannered dog who can help teach him how to "dog" and show him that affection from people can be a good thing. He will need slow introductions and may seem indifferent toward another dog at first, but that's okay. With time, he may begin watching and mirroring their behavior in the home. A meet and greet will be required.
Leonard absolutely loves playing in water, especially when he gets to chase his siblings through the splash pad! He also enjoys playing tug with stuffed animals and is doing much better on leash.
He would do best in a calm home without young children and with a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore and continue building confidence.
Leonard may need extra time to adjust, but with patience, routine, and the right canine companion by his side, he has the potential to become a loyal and loving member of the family.
