Leonard is a 2-year-old neutered male Heeler/Hound mix with striking red and white coloring and the prettiest speckling that makes him truly stand out. He came from a situation where there were many dogs and limited positive human interaction, so he is still learning how to build confidence and trust with people.
Leonard has already made wonderful progress and continues to grow more confident each day. He is starting to seek out human affection more, showing that he truly wants connection-he just needs a patient and understanding person to help him continue building that trust. With time and patience, he has the potential to form a deep and loyal bond with his people.
He is doing much better on a leash and actually seems to enjoy going for walks. Walks have become a great outlet for him to explore and build confidence in the world around him. He is also very treat-motivated, making him a great candidate for training using positive reinforcement.
Leonard would do best in a calm home without young children, where the environment is predictable and quiet so he can feel safe while continuing to build his confidence. When meeting other dogs on leash, he has seemed okay with gentle, respectful dogs, but he can show barrier reactivity and may be selective about his canine friends. Because of this, a meet and greet will be required for any dogs in the home to ensure a good match.
Ideally, Leonard would thrive in a house with a secure yard where he can safely explore, stretch his legs, and continue building confidence. With the right patient and loving family by his side, Leonard has all the potential to blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion.
