Sam aka Sammy Jammy is a gorgeous and rather interesting tortie looking for a calm and loving forever home with his bonded brother Dan.
Sammy is a neutered male, approx. 4 years old. No major health issues currently although he was originally trapped and treated by ACR for a broken toe. He requires gabapentin prior to his vet visits due to anxiety and needs to be lured into his carrier with treats/catnip as he can be difficult to crate and cannot currently be picked up.
Sammy is a very alert and still rather skittish boy but has already made amazing progress acclimating to his new indoor life around humans. He can be quite nervous and will still bolt if you approach him too quickly but he is fast learning he doesn't always need to run away and hide, especially if he is really comfortable curled up in bed. Although Sammy is weary of people and attention, he is a surprisingly confident boy who likes exploring, jumping on high surfaces for a sniff, sleeping on my pillow and chilling in the windowsill watching the world go by. Sometimes if really startled he may give a small hiss but there is never any follow through/swatting/biting etc. He absolutely loves his catnip and once he's comfortable with you he also enjoys the laser pointer as his favorite toy. Sammy is still learning that his humans love him and wont hurt him or try to grab him, so he is not able to be pet most of the time although he will come and lie extremely close to you. When he is able to be pet, he loves a chin and ear scratch and has enjoyed the occasional belly rub. Sammy is very treat motivated and this is an excellent way of luring him onto your bed/couch and getting some pets in. I think in time he will come to love being pet but it will be a long journey for him to truly let his guard down. He snores!
Sammy and Dan Dan are bonded best friends who will melt your heart with how affectionate they are with each other, particularly in the mornings- they will mash their faces together, purring their heads off while they rub their chins on anything they can find as they wait for breakfast. Very occasionally they will have a minor scrap if they're bored.
They love being by the window or curled up on the bed or a fluffy blanket and both love laser pointers, catnip and dangly toys (although it will take them a bit to get comfortable enough to play with you). They will jump on surfaces to explore sometimes but they never knock anything down. I have a lot of plants and neither has ever nibbled at them, knocked them over or dug in the soil, although they do tend to make a bit of a mess with their litter box- they dig quite a bit and some litter will end up outside the box. I got a large corner litter box with a cover and put a mat down in front of the entrance which has mitigated the issue a lot.
The boys will come and sleep on your bed with you but they don't yet stay the night. They are very playful, particularly at night. They aren't too fussy with food but tend to prefer shredded/chunky gravy wet food over pate and will both eat a healthy amount of dry food.
Their ideal home:
Sammy and Dan Dan will thrive in a calm, relatively quiet low-medium activity household. They need a lot of patience and humans who understand that they don't always want to be touched, although I'm confident that with time, constant companionship and love they will end up being rather affectionate boys. They likely wouldn't do well in a house with young children or other pets.
Both absolutely love napping in the window and enjoying the views and fresh air, so ideally a home with lots of windows although they need to be screened in to prevent escape attempts. They genuinely seem to enjoy being around people, albeit not being touched, so an environment where humans are present most of the time would be great.
Sam had a dental surgery with multiple extractions in early 2025. He is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.
