*Friendly, happy faced boy- ready to get the party going! Initially enjoyed his doggy play groups but more recently, he's gotten grumpy and picky with other dogs.

*Doing great in foster care! House trained. Doing great on crate training. Slowly making some doggy friends but can be selective. Excellent in all the busy events he's been invited to! 9/20
He's my pal. He's my good friend who has gone from super shy upon arrival to, "I'm the life of the party and ready to have fun!" We love our handsome boy and it's been a joy to see him settle in. Ashton is not a sidelines fella and loves to be in the thick of things. At 2 yrs of age, true to his labby lineage...he has some energy and plenty of love to share and spare. He is agile and athletic and is a fence scaler/climber so daily walks would be perfectly up his lane unless his new backyard area is super secure. Ashton would thrive in a home where his legs, lungs and brain get plenty of stimulation and work outs. Very social and engaging, it's always a grand time to have Ashton by your side. Ashton would like to leave you with this thought: "It's great if you'd come and meet me 'cause I know you can't resist a black lab who is fun, active, playful and kissy." Did I mention he's my pal? Do come and meet our handsome boy. You'll be glad you did.
Facebook Update Aug 26: Someone needs ASHTON!!!A very "rare" LOL solid black labby mix, he's now telling us the shelter environment is NOT a good match for him. Initially ok with other dogs, he's gotten picky and selective and his one prior outlet..doggy play groups...is no longer an option for him. He's very active in his kennel and with no way to really work off his energy and stimulate him, he's not doing well.
Ashton is very friendly, loving, playful and ready to get the party going. Arriving pretty meek, he blossomed into a pretty chill, happy guy but he's now taken another turn and needs a HOME ASAP!
If you can help Ashton, please come by and say, "I'd like to meet Ashton. I feel we need each other."

Foster Update: He has come out of his shell amazingly well and has truly started to relax. He got a bath and like any kid, he tried to make a few escapes but overall was calm and indifferent to what was happening. He is nosy! He wants to be wherever you are, he has been right on my heels since we got home. He loves to stare out the window. He also loves to lay in the bed, nearly impossible to keep him out.
He will need someone patient and willing to work with him on his indoor parkour skills lol (counter surfing, jumping on doors). But has already responded amazingly well to correction. He has silly, goofy bursts of energy and LOVES tug. I can see him needing plenty of play time and walks a day.
Foster Update Sept 3: True to his lab roots this guy is a BIG fan of water!
We hiked down to the rock quarry behind the Clemson Shotgun and Rifle range, he showed no fear/reaction to the noise. He was confident moving through people and cars. His adventurous spirit came out as soon as we hit the trail, he was having a blast with all the smells, squirrels, birds etc. What I have noticed is as long as you are with him and show him the way, he's not scared of much. I waded out a bit into the lake and he came out with me, once he had that introduction it was game on. He enjoyed splashing and pawing at the water. I can see him going further than where he can touch and swimming after a few lake trips. If you like water and hiking he will be the best bud.
Foster Update Sept 9: ASHTON IS STILL URGENT AND IN NEED. WHO CAN HELP???
He has an amazing foster who is pushing and advocating for him but honestly, we need EVERYONE sharing, tagging and considering ASHTON for their home. He's dog selective and a fence climber but otherwise totally lovable, outdoing, ready to go and do and 1000% perfect for the right family. His true pet qualities are on full display in this home (he was starting to decline at the shelter) and all he asks is to be given a chance. Note: 2 yrs old; labby mix; 50lbs
Foster Report: Good morning!! He is still being the best boy. We have made big strides in his crate training, loud whining at first but then he settles down and will sometimes quietly whine. He loves his toys and will play with you but also content playing and entertaining himself.
WHY I'M SO SPECIAL:
There are a lot of shelter dogs out there. So why Ashton? ??
Because Ashton is the kind of dog who makes an ordinary Tuesday better.
He'll make you laugh without even trying-mostly because he's adorably uncoordinated and just plain goofy. He'll follow you on a hike, splash through the water, hop happily in the car, and walk beautifully beside you.
And then he'll come home, climb onto the couch, lean into you and be perfectly content just being with you.
He's curious. He's adventurous. He's ridiculously loving. He wants to be wherever his person is, and once you show him the way, he's ready to experience the world right beside you.
Ashton isn't perfect. He's still learning some things, he's selective about his dog friends, and apparently fences are more of a suggestion in his mind. ??
But there's just something about this dog.
He brings laughter when you need joy, snuggles when you need comfort, and companionship when you need a friend.
Facebook Update Sept 21: SPOTLIGHT ON ASHTON!! Ashton is still in need. The great news is that he's in a terrific foster who is priming him for YOU!! Very friendly and young at heart, he was declining at the shelter but has beautifully settled into this new temp home. He was getting very dog selective at the shelter but he's now doing a wonderful job in slowly meeting other calm dogs, he's going and doing a lot and he's very involved in this family's daily routine. He's thriving. Still.....he needs a new home. Note: Housebroken. Good in the car. Fence climber. Note: 2 yrs old; 50lbs

Notes from his foster: Ashton has continued to excel. He has become much more confident with meeting new people. He had a brief interaction with a young puppy where he was interested and playful. He has joined us to Bible study, pool games, study rooms etc. I'll say it, say it and say it again- he is a perfect family dog. Does he have things to improve on? Yes, absolutely. Is he in his most impressionable and trainable years? YES. This is a young dog who deserves a chance to spend his lifetime knowing what it means to be a part of a family. He loves his squeaky toys, bones, treats, walks (where he walks on a perfectly loose leash I might add) and of course his person. He even spent the day with Mary Ruth whi
