*Boxer Mix
*1.5 yrs old; 40lbs (thin!)
*Sweet, shy fella. Found as an injured stray. He had a FHO in January and is now 100% healed.
*Foster notes: Housebroken, fine with resident dogs, ok being left alone (no crate needed), sweet, calm and polite. Still nervous but getting better. Very much a home body - loves being inside the home. Much more nervous outside.
Keowee is a real heartbreaker. Found as a stray, it's clear he'd been on his own for some period of time as he's super ribby but also just overwhelmed and trying to understand what's happening to him. In addition, he's hobbling around due to an injury (hit by a car??) which only compounds his level of uncertainty. Despite his travails, Keowee is kind, sweet and gentle!! Slow, easy movements bring out his best pet self! He's open to meeting other dogs especially those that are more calm and understanding that he needs a soft, peaceful being to help ease his concerns. We look forward to giving him the medical attention he needs so he can begin the healing process and is able to give back 100% as a full time, treasured pet.
More about me March 2026: Introducing our most fabulous and bravest of boxer boys, KEOWEE! Time has flown by for this handsome hunk as already he's been under our care for close to 2 months. Arriving as a stray, he was terribly thin, he hobbled around due to an old, self healed hip injury and he was scared. Super scared. Never showing any aggression, he was simply resigned and exhausted. Keowee had been on his own for some time living in a local community and at some point they started feeding him to keep him going. Once trapped, we got to work on him right away and now, just look at him!!
Keowee had a femur head operation in January and is 100% healed. He's added on many needed pounds (maybe he's 45-50lbs?), his spirit has been restored and he's felt the love and understanding of an amazing foster family who welcomed him almost immediately upon arrival at the shelter.
So what works for our brave boy?? First off, he still struggles with shyness and insecurities but day by day is finding himself and making his foster family most proud. He has beautifully shared his foster home with the multi resident dogs (male/female/lg/sm) and has done remarkably well with small kids. Very sweet and kind, Keowee is a nervous dog and a more quiet home with humans loaded with love and patience will help move Keowee along to be his best pet self. A home with other dogs is also a plus so they can continue to show him the ropes. Recently, the foster family had folks in for a long weekend and not only did he make an appearance to everyone, but he seemed to enjoy having the extra humans around. He might have been thinking, "I've got this. I can do this!"
Keowee is very much a home-body in that he's even more nervous outside and finds the inside of a home familiar and comforting. While Keowee is a capable leash walker, he's not a huge fan of walks! So for those of you who wish to benefit from having a dog who requires a minimal amount of daily exercise, Keowee could be the one for you! His current set up is a very well secured back yard where he will do his business and then very quickly and efficiently he's clamoring to come back inside. Of note, Keowee is fine being left alone in the home and yes, he's 100% housebroken.
At less than 2 yrs of age, while Keowee has no doubt endured a lot, still he's made remarkable progress at trusting people, is taking chances and we're seeing his true kindness/sweetness slowly but surely rise to the surface. If you are into helping the underdog and truly impacting a dog who's been dealt a very poor hand of cards, Keowee is the one for YOU. Please let us know when you'd like to meet him. He's a special guy on the cusp of pet greatness!
