*BullMastiff Mix
*8mos old; 35lbs
*Very friendly, social outgoing fella. Did great in foster care. Housetrained, excellent with 2 resident dogs.
Foster Update: He is doing extremely well with house training. Very affectionate, happy go lucky boi. Waits to be invited onto furniture. Doesn't beg for food. Isn't at ALL food aggressive! Good with both our dogs. Learning about chew toys..and accepts them if he chooses something else like shoes! Walks well on leash (still has some work to do if pulled at all). Settles well in the kennel at night.
Foster notes- The detail is amazing!
Thank you for allowing us to foster Clay while he was recovering from his neuter surgery. We had a blast with this fun boy! Hopeful he will find his home soon as we could only foster through last week. Here are some things we learned this week. He is a love bug packaged in a beautiful sleek silky coat with an awfully large but handsome head! He very quickly adapts to his surroundings, is quick to learn the rules and is eager to please. He has been a perfect patient. Takes medicine well, didn't fight the treatments, although he was embarrassed by the diaper we made him!! He has learned to enjoy riding in cars and loads up happily, I think he would make an excellent running or hiking partner. He doesn't wander off, very easily trained to our fence system.
Like any young dog learning how to be a house dog, Clay has made a few mistakes with what are his allowed chew toys vs say...crocs, but he only makes any mistake once and happily accepts his toy as replacement. He plays well with our other dogs and can be quickly calmed if their play escalates. Takes treats ever so gently and doesn't beg for food.
Clay is a pretty quiet dog, he does bark when people come to our door to alert. He is timid around new people but once introduced and given a few minutes to approach them, he relaxes and accepts all the petting they want to give. He no longer jumps for attention and he has learned to walk on his leash. I'd say that Clay is 99% house trained. He did have some piddle incidents but if his humans stay on schedule and mindful of his nudges, he does extremely well. He has zero accidents in the kennel and sleeps inside his crate in the kennel at night, so he'd crate train very easily. He waits patiently in the crate when we are away from the house. Clay enjoys being groomed and seems to really enjoy being towel dried after several walks in the rain. And, as a huge plus, he is NOT afraid of storms, and you know we had some doozies this week! He is learning her basic commands with sit (for a cookie) being a favorite.
All in all, Clay wants to be around "his" people, but has a healthy dose of curiosity and doesn't trip you up being under your feet all the time, he'll even let you go to the bathroom alone!! In the evenings, he will happily settle in beside you or at your feet when watching tv or relaxing.
