I'm finding my footing. I've made a friend. Exhale. The shelter has been a scary place for me but luckily a staff member quickly took me under her wing and she's able to see my loving, playful and silly side. I might even trot after one of our super large red balls in the play yard when she tosses it. Yes, that would be my athletic side! LOL. I'm able to shine under the staff member's care in particular when it's really quiet and we have each other to ourselves. In the kennel, I am nervous and not doing well. I now have the coveted position of being in this staff member's office during the day where I feel safe and secure. Others are getting me out and walking me around but I'm a bit darty and nervous. I'm working daily on building my confidence and comfort level with others. I've done well in meeting polite, unobtrusive dogs and each day, I'm continuing to take tiny steps to lead to the big step of meeting YOU and making you smile and feeling an adoption connection with me! Thank you for tuning in. BONNIE
More about me June 27 from a staff member: Bonnie is perfect in car rides other than needing a little help getting in and out of the car. She has never had an accident in the house (or my office) even when left for 10+ hours. She has little bursts of energy where she play bows and zoomies but she spends most of her time lounging in her bed. She is very nervous around other dogs but I think with time she would be more comfortable. Right now she chomps when they come near but she's never offered to make contact. Simply communicating that she needs space. Bonnie takes a long time to warm up but she's gotten much better at meeting new people. Once she warms up to you she will let you do anything to her. She would make a great addition to any home, but I would caution with children due to her nervous nature.
Facebook Post July 7: Look who got a respite from the shelter and safe spot to hunker down as fireworks went off over the weekend! It's our pretty lady BONNIE! This is her second foster and again, she did not let this family down. She was great in the home, housebroken and after only a couple of days, her pet "Shine" was really coming to the surface. Does she look like your new, best friend? If "Yes," please connect with us. Note: 3.5 yrs; about 60lbs
She did very well in her short amount of time hanging out with us . She was pretty nervous when I first brought her home and was pretty anxious to get inside. She found her safe spot on the dog bed and hunkered down for the night. By the second day she was eager to go outside and cautiously get some sniffs in but was quick to return inside. She opened up and even more relaxed by the third day. She would wiggle around and be very excited to get outside to romp and roll around. She finally decided to accept the invitation to be invited on the "big bed" and happily took scratches and even rolled over for a belly rub. I was super happy with the progress she made in a short time. She is going to make someone very happy. Just needs someone slow, patient and loving.
