How I Arrived At NHS: We were brought in by animal control and we went directly into a foster home until we were old enough to have surgery. We are back at the shelter now and ready to find homes of our own.

Notes from my foster mom: Fern is the absolute sweetest cat ever. She isn't shy at all, and wants nothing more than to be around her people. She always greets me when I open the door, and loves to be close by. She loves head and chin scratches, and will return the favor by trying to groom you. Over the several weeks that I had with her, I got to get to know her as a mother and as an individual. I've never met a more loving, patient, mama cat. Fern lets her babies run, jump on, smack, and bite her all day with only a few complaints. Beyond being a mom, Fern is goofy and playful. She loves to play with wand toys and I think she would love a kicker! She likes to wrestle and kick and wiggle around on the ground with her hindlegs in the air. She does play bite and she will grab your arm to try and wrestle with it, so keep that in mind - especially if young kids want to play with her. She is the perfect mix of a calm, loving cat with a playful spirit.
Despite having babies to protect, Fern was incredibly calm around our other pets. She was generally very okay with our 2 other cats around and only would give them a quick warning to back away if they got too close to her babies. She was never fully introduced to either of our cats, but she didn't mind seeing them through the baby gate and enjoyed playing under the door with them. I think that she would do just fine with other cats with a proper introduction. She was also very okay around our medium size dog. She was also not fully introduced to him, but she interacted well with him through the baby gate and even touched her nose to his. I think that she would do just fine with a dog who is good around cats, with a proper introduction.
Fern has many sweet and silly quirks - like her black lips that make it look like she's wearing black lipstick, or her insatiable hunger for human food. She is calm, sweet, and playful and would make the perfect little companion!

Good With Kids: yes but probably not small children (see above)
Good With Cats: yes
Good With Dogs: likely with a proper introduction

Cats are feline leukemia/feline immunodeficiency virus tested (if applicable), if there is a litter, one in the litter is tested or the queen is tested. They have had at least their first distemper combo (booster given if been in our care for the appropriate time), been de-wormed, microchipped, and treated with a flea and tick product (if applicable). All the cats are spayed or neutered before they leave for their forever homes.
