Meet Puddin Pop! This petite, gorgeous brindle lady came to BARCS as a stray. While she may be beautiful on the outside, inside she is a very nervous girl who is still learning that the world can be a safe place.
After Puddin arrived at BARCS, staff quickly noticed how frightened she was in the kennel and moved her into a quieter office. Her human office mate discovered that she enjoys chicken and peanut butter and will slowly approach people when given the time and space to do so on her own terms. When she feels overwhelmed, Puddin may freeze and need to be carried.
A volunteer brought Ms. Puddin Pop home for the holiday weekend to give her a quiet place to decompress and help everyone learn more about her. She allowed her foster to pick her up and place her in the car, where she rode quietly. In the home, Puddin considers her crate a safe place and will retreat there when she needs some security. Little by little, she has started to warm up and approach her foster-and has even begun showing off some sweet tail wags! These are wonderful signs that she is beginning to feel more comfortable.
Puddin is a quiet, respectful houseguest who leaves things that don't belong to her alone. She is food motivated and is currently working on housetraining. With patience, consistency, and plenty of tasty treats, she has already shown that she can make meaningful progress.
After spending the holiday with a volunteer, Puddin Pop moved into a long-term foster home, where she is continuing to make wonderful progress and show more of her sweet personality each day.
Puddin Pop is a sensitive girl who needs a little time and patience to feel safe, but watching her blossom is incredibly rewarding. She has started climbing onto the couch to relax beside her foster at night and now approaches members of the family for gentle pets. She may be shy around the children in her foster home, but she has bravely approached them to sniff and offer a few sweet kisses. When the house becomes too noisy, she simply retreats to her crate, where she feels safe and comfortable.
This lovely girl adores other dogs and gains confidence from her canine foster siblings. She especially enjoys trying to play with the more easygoing dog in the home and would likely appreciate a friendly doggie roommate who can help show her how much fun being a dog can be!
Puddin Pop is doing well with housetraining and settles calmly in her crate when left alone. She has also started discovering the joy of toys, including squeaky stuffies and split antlers. Walking on a leash is still a work in progress, as she may freeze or lie down when she feels unsure, but she continues to make progress with gentle encouragement.
Because Puddin Pop once climbed a six-foot fence while trying to reach another dog for playtime, she should always be carefully supervised outside. Puddin Pop will need an adopter who is familiar with shy dogs and willing to let her move at her own pace. She isn't ready to rush into the world, but with a calm home and a compassionate person by her side, this sensitive girl has so much potential to blossom.
In her foster home, Puddin has been introduced to the resident dogs and does well with them as long as they are respectful and not overly playful. Much like she is with new people, Puddin needs canine friends who will give her time and space to become comfortable. She may need to meet any potential doggie roommates to ensure they are a good match and would do best with a calm, gentle dog companion.
