Meet Highlight, a sweet and loving mama who arrived at BARCS with her puppy and has been the very best mom. Now that she has finished raising her little one, it's finally Highlight's turn to be the baby in a family of her own! This affectionate girl is eager to please, full of personality, and showing everyone just how much she has to offer.
Highlight loves getting outside and is always ready for an adventure. She has enjoyed plenty of walking, hiking, and even running during her time in foster, and this athletic girl can happily keep up for miles. She loves exploring new scents, playing with her toys, and rolling around in the grass before bursting into an impressive round of zoomies. She'll happily show you just how fast she can run!
When she's not busy having fun, Highlight is very happy to settle into her bed or favorite window chair. She loves stuffie toys, especially the ones she has lovingly removed the stuffing from, and a Kong filled with peanut butter is a favorite when her foster family heads out. She has done wonderfully when left alone uncrated during the workday, with no destructive behavior or accidents during those longer stretches. She appears to be mostly housetrained, though she has had a couple of recent accidents as she continues settling into her new routine.
Highlight is smart, treat-motivated, and already knows "sit." She is eager to please and is making great progress learning how to moderate her excitement. She can get quite enthusiastic when people get down to her level and is still working on keeping all four paws on the floor and being gentle when excited. Her foster family has also been impressed by her manners when visiting friends-she was wonderful in the car, behaved beautifully in the house, and greeted people coming through the door very nicely.
Highlight is a very social girl who enjoys meeting people. She was excited to greet a neighbor and quickly responded to "sit," and she was friendly and gentle when meeting a young girl while out on a walk. She seems to enjoy being around her people very much and would love a family who will give her plenty of affection, enrichment, exercise, and opportunities to continue learning.
On leash, Highlight is still a work in progress. She pulls quite a bit, especially when she spots people or other dogs, because she is eager to go say hello. She regularly checks in with her person during walks. With continued positive reinforcement and practice, she is expected to make great progress. She already does wonderfully on runs and would be a fun companion for an active family.
Highlight has met other dogs at BARCS and prefers gentle, respectful playmates. She may need to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. She is interested in other dogs while out and about, but she has not yet had the opportunity to live with another dog in her foster home.
After being such a devoted mama, Highlight is ready for someone to spoil her and remind her that she deserves plenty of love, attention, adventures, and time to simply be someone's baby. This happy, affectionate, energetic girl has so much love to give and is ready to find a family who will continue helping her grow into the wonderful companion she is becoming.
