Meet Yuki, a sweet, gentle boy who is discovering that life in a foster home can be a pretty wonderful thing. When Yuki first arrived at BARCS, he was underweight and still figuring out who he was, but with time, care, and plenty of nutritious meals, he has been gaining strength and confidence. His foster family says he is doing great and has watched his energy and personality continue to blossom.
Yuki is an affectionate little guy who loves being close to his people. He is definitely a Velcro dog and likes to know what his favorite person is doing at all times, making him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys having a furry shadow by their side. He loves snuggling and being near his people, and his foster family describes him as incredibly sweet and cuddly. He also does wonderfully with his foster family's daughter, showing that he can settle into family life beautifully.
As Yuki has gained strength, he has also become noticeably more energetic. While he was initially a fairly quiet, low-energy guy, he now has much more pep and enjoys running around and playing in the yard with his foster family. He may not be interested in traditional toys, but he absolutely loves his interactive food toys and is happy to work for his favorite treats. He is still discovering what kinds of play he enjoys, and watching him become more playful has been one of the many rewarding parts of his time in a foster home.
Yuki is wonderful with cats and has even shown interest in trying to play with them. He also does well with small dogs and has enjoyed having a canine companion around. He has previously met other dogs at BARCS and seems to prefer gentle, respectful friends. Any potential resident dog should meet Yuki to make sure everyone is comfortable and a good match.
Yuki is a lovely walking companion when he is in the mood for an outing, but he is increasingly showing that long walks aren't really his thing. He prefers shorter adventures and taking his time to explore, and his foster family has found that he is happiest when he can run and stretch his legs in the yard. Busy streets can make him nervous, so a quieter neighborhood or home with a yard may help him feel more comfortable while he continues building confidence.
Yuki can be a little shy and stand-offish with people he doesn't know, and his foster family has noticed that he is particularly nervous around strangers and unfamiliar, busy environments. He does warm up with time and positive experiences, and his foster plans to use treats to help him feel more comfortable meeting new people. Recently, he spent time relaxing on a neighbor's porch and did very well staying close to his person and settling into the new environment. A patient adopter who lets Yuki take things at his own pace will help him continue learning that new people and places can be safe and positive.
Yuki is making progress with his housetraining, although he still has occasional accidents, particularly at night when he is out of his crate. His new family should be prepared to continue a consistent routine and give him time to become fully reliable. He has, however, made wonderful progress with his crate routine. He now willingly goes into his crate in the morning and has become comfortable with the schedule, which is a big step forward for a dog who has had so many changes in his life.
Yuki is also a smart little guy who enjoys learning. He already knows "no" well and is continuing to work on his basic manners and communication with his foster family. His food motivation makes interactive toys and treats especially helpful for keeping his mind busy and building positive associations with new experiences.
Yuki has come a long way from the quiet, underweight dog who was still figuring everything out when he first entered his foster home. Now, he is gaining strength, showing much more energy, enjoying his people, cuddling whenever he gets the chance, and letting more of his personality shine through. He may still need some patience and encouragement when it comes to strangers, busy environments, and housetraining, but he has already shown how much he can grow when given the time and security he needs.
Yuki would love a patient, loving family who will give him the chance to continue building confidence while enjoying all the wonderful things he already knows: cuddles, companionship, interactive food toys, yard time, and being someone's devoted little shadow. In return, Yuki promises to bring plenty of sweetness, affection, and those increasingly playful bursts of personality to his forever home.
