Meet Sea Otter, a friendly, adorable 1-year-old girl who weighs 48 pounds and loves to have fun! Her former family shared that she enjoys running, playing with toys, and spending time with children. Since going into a foster home, Sea Otter has continued to show what a sweet, affectionate companion she can be.
Sea Otter is doing wonderfully in her foster home. She is house-trained and has had zero accidents since arriving. She enjoys getting out for at least two walks a day, but she is also calm and relaxed indoors. Her foster describes her energy as medium-she enjoys her walks and has good energy outside, but inside she is content to sleep, rest, and hang out with her people.
Sea Otter is an affectionate girl who loves being close to her humans. She frequently asks for pets and attention, and when she decides it's time to cuddle, she wants to be as close as possible, whether she's curled up on the couch or in bed. She is perfectly happy to spend some time independently, too, and may choose to sleep on her own some nights. If you're especially lucky, she may even wrap you up in one of her signature Sea Otter hugs!
She is also proving to be a fantastic houseguest. Sea Otter has done very well when left alone, both crated and uncrated in a closed room. While crated, she occasionally cried briefly or moved around, but her foster did not observe signs of anxiety. When given more freedom in a closed room, she settled beautifully, sleeping, playing with her toys, and looking out the window. Her favorite toys seem to be things she can chew, and she is learning how to enjoy relaxing independently.
Sea Otter walks nicely on leash and is very manageable on her outings. Squirrels are particularly exciting and can occasionally inspire her to pull in their direction. She may also pay close attention to other dogs, especially smaller dogs, but she can be redirected easily and does not remain fixated on them for long. Her foster is continuing to work on helping her stay focused on her person around other animals.
Although Sea Otter has not met new people in her foster home this week, her former family reported that she enjoys spending time with children. She has previously shown herself to be a friendly, affectionate girl who enjoys being part of a family. As with any dog, potential adopters should introduce her thoughtfully to everyone in the household.
Sea Otter does not currently live with other pets, and she can feel uncomfortable around other dogs. She would prefer to be your one and only canine companion. She may notice and show interest in other dogs while out walking, but she is generally easy to redirect. Her future family should continue giving her space and helping her focus on her person when other animals are nearby.
Sea Otter is food motivated, although she is still working on her "sit." She hasn't quite mastered it yet, but she is enjoying her time with her foster and continuing to settle into her new routine. She isn't particularly interested in playing with toys outdoors, likely because there are so many interesting sights and smells competing for her attention, but she does enjoy chewing toys indoors.
At the end of the day, Sea Otter is happiest when she's with her people. She is sweet, affectionate, calm in the home, enjoyable to walk, and perfectly content to spend time relaxing beside her favorite humans. Whether she's sniffing her way down the sidewalk, chewing on a favorite toy, curling up on the couch, or asking for some serious cuddles, she has a lovely balance of playful energy and easygoing companionship.
