Zebra Mussel came to BARCS through no fault of her own, and this tenderhearted girl is hoping her next chapter will be with a patient family who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and confident. Her former family described her as a quiet, friendly girl who does well with children. She enjoys playing with toys, running around, and being part of a family. At 50 pounds, she's a wonderful medium-sized companion.
Here at the shelter, Zebra Mussel can still be a little shy, but she has been incredibly sweet and easy to handle. She's easy to leash and takes gentle, leisurely walks, preferring to follow her nose and investigate all the interesting scents along the trails. She checks in frequently with her handler, which is a lovely sign that she's looking to her person for reassurance and connection.
Zebra Mussel walks calmly past the resident cats on the trails without reacting and pays little attention to the other dogs she encounters. She accepts treats gently and appreciates quiet pets and soft encouragement.
Zebra Mussel has met other dogs at the shelter, she can be easily uncomfortable and will need to be your one and only dog at home.
We think there's a playful personality waiting to shine once Zebra Mussel feels comfortable. Give this sweet girl the patience, kindness, and reassurance she deserves, and we're sure she'll blossom into a wonderful, devoted companion.
