Apple Strudel spent some time in a temporary foster home, and whoever gets to bring this lovable goofball into their family is in for a treat! At about a year old and 48 pounds, Apple is a wonderful mix of playful energy, affection, and personality.
Despite arriving as a stray, Apple seems to understand many of the ropes of home life. He hasn't been destructive, respects the furniture, and loves his crate. He settles comfortably there when left alone and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. He did wonderfully with his house training.
Apple absolutely LOVES people. He adores his foster's 7- and 9-year-old children and wants everyone he meets to become his new best friend. When three new adults recently visited the home, Apple tried to crawl into their laps for snuggles! His enthusiastic greetings can include jumping, so he'll benefit from continued work on keeping all four paws on the floor. Apple has also started alerting his foster to unfamiliar sounds and the doorbell as he becomes more comfortable in the home.
There may be only one thing that rivals people in Apple's heart: balls! Lacrosse balls are a particular favorite, and he also LOVES stuffy toys-especially when he gets to perform a little "surgery" and pull out all the stuffing. Apple has a medium energy level and enjoys playtime, car rides, plenty of snuggling, and going out for walks. Once the fun is over, he is happy to settle nearby and relax.
Apple is an enthusiastic walking companion who loves getting outside to explore! His excitement can lead to strong pulling, especially when he sees other dogs, so he'll benefit from a confident adopter who can continue helping him develop his leash skills. His experience living with other animals is currently unknown.
Apple Strudel is affectionate, silly, playful, and full of enthusiasm for life. He loves being close to his people and has so much affection to give. This ball-loving goofball is ready to find a family who will adore him as much as he adores them.
This sweet, playful boy has been spending time in a short-term foster home, where he has been an absolutely phenomenal houseguest. His foster describes him as incredibly sweet, delightfully "noodley," and an excellent cuddler who loves being close to his people.
Apple Strudel has wonderful house manners. He is housetrained, has had no accidents in his foster home, and sleeps peacefully through the night. He is also generally quiet and doesn't beg for food-even when he is curled up directly on his foster while they enjoy a snack! He takes his medicine easily and knows "sit" and "down."
This fun-loving boy enjoys walking, jogging, and romping around the backyard. He gets an adorable burst of zoomies whenever he first heads outside, but after a little exercise, he is happy to relax and snooze for much of the day. He recently went on a trail walk and did a great job passing other dogs with guidance from his foster.
Apple Strudel is currently working on his leash skills. A front-clip harness helps with pulling, and he is making progress learning to slow down and follow his person's lead. He responds well to treats and redirection, although barking dogs can sometimes be overwhelming for him. He will benefit from a family willing to continue his positive, reward-based training.
Apple Strudel shares his foster home with a 5-year-old male pit bull. The two met at BARCS under the supervision of a trainer, who noted that they played well together and that Apple Strudel may benefit from having a confident canine role model. He has not yet been evaluated around cats.
When left alone for approximately four hours, Apple Strudel stayed in his crate without having an accident. He did decide that his crate bed looked more fun without its stuffing, so an appropriate chew toy may be a better option for keeping him entertained!
Like many enthusiastic pups, Apple Strudel can become a little mouthy when excited, but he is easily redirected. He may also hurry toward the door when someone arrives or leaves, so his future family should use secure doors, gates, and leashing routines to keep this speedy boy safe.
Apple Strudel offers the perfect combination of adventure buddy and cuddle companion. He has plenty of playful energy when it's time to have fun, then settles down beautifully for a long nap or some serious snuggling. With continued guidance, daily exercise, and lots of love, this wonderfully sweet boy will make a fantastic addition to his future family.
Apple Strudel has met other dogs at the shelter, he does best with tolerant and socially savvy female friends. He would like to meet any potential doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. He is eligible to come back to BARCS for social sessions.
