Meet Josefina! This sweet 9-year-old senior lady is the definition of gentle, easygoing companionship. At 48 pounds, she's a wonderful medium-sized girl who isn't interested in rushing through life. Josefina would much rather take a leisurely stroll, stop for some pets, savor a tasty treat, and spend the rest of the day relaxing beside her favorite person.
Josefina has settled beautifully into foster care and has quickly shown what a loving housemate she can be. Her foster describes her as an absolute sweetheart who simply wants to love her person. She is calm, affectionate, and wonderfully well behaved when left alone, earning an enthusiastic "perfect angel" from her foster. She also seems very comfortable settling into the slower pace that comes naturally to a senior dog.
Josefina is an excellent leash companion. She doesn't pull and is happy to amble along beside her person, taking in the world at her own leisurely pace. Every now and then, she may decide that she'd rather pause and take her time rather than keep moving, but that's part of her charming senior-dog personality. She enjoys her walks without needing to turn them into an expedition.
Josefina is affectionate with people and has already demonstrated just how quickly she can make new friends. When her foster's boyfriend visited the home, Josefina instantly decided he was wonderful and happily welcomed him into her circle. She loves being near her people and enjoys plenty of attention, pets, and snuggles. Her gentle personality makes her an especially lovely companion for someone looking for a calm, devoted dog.
She has met other dogs at BARCS and has done best with calm, polite canine companions. Her foster has not yet introduced her to other dogs in the home, so she may need to meet any resident dogs to ensure they're a good match.
Josefina is hard of hearing, but she doesn't let that stop her from enjoying life. She takes her cues from her person and would do best with someone who is comfortable communicating through gentle guidance, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement. She already knows "sit" and is wonderfully attentive to the person she's walking with.
Treats are a definite highlight of Josefina's day. She accepts them gently and takes her time enjoying every bite, perfectly embodying her relaxed approach to life. She isn't particularly interested in toys or high-energy games-instead, she would much rather be near her people, enjoy some affection, and settle in for a cozy nap.
Josefina has the kind of personality that makes you slow down and appreciate the little things. She doesn't need constant entertainment or big adventures. A leisurely walk, a few tasty treats, some gentle affection, and a comfortable spot beside her favorite person are enough to make her happy.
