Jerry came to BARCS as a stray and was initially described as very shy and nervous, but every day he shows that underneath his cautious exterior is an incredibly sweet, gentle dog just waiting to trust. His finder shared that he peacefully coexisted with a cat, and one thing is already certain-treats are the fastest way to this handsome boy's heart!
Jerry is currently enjoying a short-term foster stay, where he's making wonderful progress. While he needed a little encouragement getting into the car, he bravely hopped out on his own once they arrived. On walks, Jerry truly shines. He walks with a relaxed pace, rarely pulls, and happily adjusts his speed to stay with his person. Exploring the neighborhood seems to bring out his growing confidence.
Indoor life is still new and a little overwhelming for Jerry, but he's learning quickly. With patient encouragement, kind words, and a predictable routine, he's settled in beautifully. He sleeps soundly through the night in his crate and has even started choosing to nap there on his own. He's also doing well with going outside to potty and is eating his meals with enthusiasm.
As Jerry becomes more comfortable, his sweet personality begins to emerge. He absolutely melts for gentle scratches under his chin, behind his ears, and along the side of his face. One of his favorite ways to ask for affection is to softly rest his head on your arm and nudge your hand for more pets. He's even started testing out his playful side, offering little bursts of play before remembering he's still building confidence.
Jerry will thrive with a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. Gentle encouragement, calm reassurance, and lots of love help him navigate new experiences, and each day he becomes a little braver than the last. Once he feels safe, Jerry is a calm, affectionate, and incredibly rewarding companion who simply wants to be near his people.
If you're looking for a loyal best friend and have the patience to help a shy dog blossom, Jerry may just be the perfect match for you.
Jerry has met other dogs at BARCS and he prefers gentle and polite friends. He would like to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match.
Jerry is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting him, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
