Meet Top Ten 4, affectionately known as Runtz, a sweet, sensitive girl who is beginning to discover that the world isn't such a scary place after all. She's currently settling into a foster home, where her confidence grows a little more each day. While she can be shy in new situations, it's easy to see the loving, playful dog waiting to blossom with a patient family by her side.
Runtz is a gentle soul who craves affection, even if she's still learning how to ask for it. She loves being close to her people and enjoys snuggling once she feels safe. New people can make her a little nervous, and she often responds with submissive body language, lowering herself to the ground as she says hello. She is especially uncomfortable when someone stands over her, but if you sit down at her level, she relaxes much more quickly and happily accepts gentle attention. Building trust with Runtz is incredibly rewarding, and each day she becomes a little braver.
Her playful personality is starting to emerge in her foster home as well. She enjoys chewing on her favorite toys and will happily play for short bursts before scampering behind a table or tucking herself beside her foster when she needs a little reassurance. She has moments of energetic puppy excitement but settles nicely once she's had a chance to burn off some energy. It's been wonderful watching her slowly gain confidence and show more of her curious, silly side.
Runtz is also making progress with life in a home. She settles comfortably in her crate when left alone, occasionally letting out a few howls before relaxing. Housetraining is still very much a work in progress, and she's currently only eliminating in her crate despite spending plenty of time outside. Her future family should expect to continue helping her learn that going potty outdoors is safe and rewarding. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, she'll continue making progress.
On walks, Runtz is still learning that a leash isn't something to fear. She becomes nervous when she feels tension on the leash, but she enjoys running alongside her person and sometimes playfully grabs the leash as she goes. She has also shown positive interest in the resident dogs in her foster home, happily wagging her tail and getting excited whenever she sees them through the glass doors. While they haven't interacted directly yet, her friendly curiosity suggests she may enjoy having a confident canine companion to help show her the ropes.
Runtz is looking for a patient adopter who will celebrate every small victory as she continues to build confidence. She is a sweet, affectionate girl with so much potential, and she's already showing that she wants to connect with people-she just needs someone willing to move at her pace.
