Meet Whey, a handsome, affectionate boy with a heart as big as his love for cuddles. If you're looking for a dog who's happiest curled up beside you after a leisurely walk, Whey may be your perfect match. His foster describes him as the ultimate couch potato and "the biggest snugglebug," thriving on cozy naps, belly rubs, and simply being close to his favorite people.

Whey has settled beautifully into his foster home and has proven to be an easy, well-mannered houseguest. He's reliably housetrained, calm when left alone, and spends most of his downtime snoozing peacefully. His foster crates him when they're away, and he settles in without any fuss, quietly sleeping until they return home. He doesn't bark when his family comes back, simply waiting patiently to greet them with his usual calm, happy demeanor. He's the kind of dog who instinctively knows when it's time for a walk and when it's time to stretch out for another nap on the couch.

One of Whey's favorite things in the world is people. He absolutely loves meeting new friends and happily wags his tail whenever someone stops to say hello. His foster reports that he's completely nonreactive to people and simply hopes everyone will stop to give him a few pets. He especially loves children and lights up when kids come over to shower him with attention. Whether meeting strangers at adoption events, on neighborhood walks, or during a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Whey has consistently charmed everyone with his calm, gentle personality and affectionate nature.

On walks, Whey starts out with plenty of excitement and may pull a bit at the beginning, but he quickly settles into a relaxed pace. He enjoys taking in all the sights and smells, happily ignores other dogs he passes, and is much more interested in making new human friends than anything else. He's learning great leash manners and continues to improve with consistency and gentle guidance.

Whey already knows "sit" and is currently working on "paw." He's very food motivated and enjoys learning new things, especially when treats are involved. His favorite toys include tennis balls, bully sticks, and a stuffed elephant with a ball hidden inside, but if given the choice between playing and curling up beside his favorite person, cuddling wins every time.

Despite his laid-back personality, Whey enjoys getting out for daily adventures with his people. This week he visited Washington, D.C., where he relaxed on the grass during a picnic and soaked up all the attention from passersby. He also attended two adoption events, taking everything in stride with his easygoing personality. Whether exploring somewhere new or simply relaxing at home, Whey is happiest when he's included.

His foster describes him as the perfect balance of calm and companionship. While his energy level is moderate enough to enjoy daily walks and outings, he's naturally a relaxed dog who would much rather spend the evening snuggled on the couch than bouncing off the walls. His gentle temperament, excellent house manners, and affectionate personality make him an incredibly easy dog to live with.

Whey has also done well around other dogs. He happily ignores them on walks and has previously shown friendly, appropriate social skills with canine companions. He prefers gentle, respectful dog friends and would like to meet any resident dogs before adoption to ensure everyone is a good match.

If you're looking for a loyal best friend who will happily join you on a daily walk, accompany you on picnics and outings, adore every child he meets, and then spend the rest of the evening cuddled beside you on the couch, Whey is ready to steal your heart.

Whey is currently enjoying life in a foster home while he waits for his forever family. If you're interested in meeting him, please complete an adoption application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps.
