Meet Lazy Susan, a beautiful 4-year-old girl weighing 48 pounds-the perfect medium-sized companion. With her petite, muscular build and sweet expression, she's always turning heads and earning compliments wherever she goes.
Since arriving at BARCS, Lazy Susan has made incredible progress. The shy girl she once was has blossomed into a happy pup who now eagerly comes up for easy leashing, ready for her next adventure. She's incredibly food motivated, loves treats, and already knows several cues, making her a joy to train. One of her sweetest habits is automatically sitting when she returns to her kennel, patiently waiting like the very best girl. It's an adorable routine that perfectly captures her gentle, thoughtful personality.
Now thriving in her foster home, Lazy Susan continues to show what a wonderful companion she can be. She is fully crate trained, settles quietly when left alone, and has had no accidents in her foster home. She's adjusted beautifully to her routine and has proven to be a calm, well-mannered houseguest.
Lazy Susan is a wonderful walking companion. She strolls nicely on a loose leash without excessive pulling and enjoys taking her time to sniff and explore. Her foster has been helping her build confidence around distractions using treats, and the results have been impressive. She's becoming less reactive to other dogs and wildlife, responds well to cues like "leave it," and is learning that staying focused on her person is rewarding. While she's curious about new people, sudden movements can still make her a little cautious, so she appreciates calm introductions and a little patience.
One of the biggest highlights of her foster stay has been watching her confidence grow around new people. Her foster has been encouraging positive interactions by having strangers offer her treats, and Lazy Susan has continued making steady progress. She isn't the type of dog who immediately climbs into every stranger's lap, but she wants to engage and simply needs a little time to feel comfortable. Once she trusts someone, her affectionate personality shines through.
Lazy Susan is especially wonderful with the people she knows and loves. She enjoys snuggling beside her foster family, relaxing nearby, and soaking up affection from her favorite people. Her foster shared a particularly touching moment watching Lazy Susan gently interact with a 2-year-old grandson as he carefully tried to place a clover necklace around her neck. Her calm, patient response beautifully showcased her sweet and gentle nature.
She is smart, eager to learn, and enjoys working with her people. In addition to "sit," she now knows "drop" and "leave it," and her love of treats makes training enjoyable for everyone involved. She also loves chasing balls and sticks, and after discovering the joy of a securely fenced yard, she's become quite the fan of zooming around, sniffing every corner, and enjoying the freedom to run before happily settling down again.
Her energy level strikes a wonderful balance. Around the house she's relaxed and easygoing, but she's also showing more playful confidence every day, delighting her foster with happy zoomies and enthusiastic games of fetch. Whether she's exploring outdoors or curled up beside you inside, Lazy Susan is happiest when she's spending time with the people she trusts.
Lazy Susan has made encouraging progress around other dogs through careful management and positive reinforcement. She has also participated in shelter social opportunities and continues building her confidence with guidance. She would like to meet any potential canine roommates to ensure they're a good match and is eligible to continue participating in BARCS social sessions as she develops her social skills.
