Meet Zee-Kee! This sweet, gentle boy is looking for a fresh start after arriving at the shelter as a stray. His finder shared that he was friendly and did well with their 11-year-old daughter, giving us a glimpse of the wonderful companion he can be.
Zee-Kee has been thriving in his foster home, where he's proven to be an incredibly easy dog to live with. He is perfectly housetrained and has developed an adorable way of letting his people know when he needs to go outside-he simply walks to the door, sits down, and looks back at you. He's equally trustworthy when left alone, happily relaxing in his crate or quietly roaming the house without getting into anything. His foster describes him as the kind of dog who settles seamlessly into home life.
This handsome boy is an easy-going walking companion who enjoys taking his time to sniff and quietly explore the world around him. He walks nicely on leash and remains calm around people, dogs, and other everyday distractions. The only time he tends to pull is when he's hoping to head back toward home or the car. He's now comfortable being walked by either of his foster parents individually and even spent a weekend with a foster sitter, where he confidently enjoyed neighborhood walks with her as well.
Zee-Kee can be a little shy when meeting new people, but with a little patience, his sweet personality shines through. His confidence continues to grow every week. During a recent stay with his foster sitter, he explored her home for a few seconds before happily greeting her, and after asking visitors to simply ignore him at first, he warmly introduced himself to everyone within about 30 seconds. At a recent adoption event, he charmed adults and children alike. He happily approached people who sat down to meet him, quickly greeted neighborhood friends, and was especially gentle with an 8-month-old baby, remaining completely unfazed by the little one's excited squeals.
This smart boy already knows "sit," "down," "paw," and "spin," and he's continuing to build on his training by practicing cues like "circle," "down-stay," "sit-stay," and "up." He's eager to learn, enjoys working with his people, and responds well to positive reinforcement.
One of Zee-Kee's favorite things in the world is playtime. He absolutely adores toys and makes sure everyone knows it. He loves carrying them around the house, proudly showing them off, playing tug, chasing tennis balls, and practicing fetch. While he's still perfecting the return portion of fetch, his enthusiasm more than makes up for it. After his daily zoomies around sunset, he's happy to curl up for a nap or enjoy some well-earned snuggle time with his people.
His foster has also learned more about Zee-Kee's personality around cats. When a neighbor's cat unexpectedly wandered into the backyard, Zee-Kee watched with curiosity and briefly trotted after it when it ran, but immediately returned when called. At a recent adoption event, he calmly sniffed a cat in a carrier and showed quiet curiosity toward a kitten without barking, pulling, or fixating. While thoughtful introductions would still be recommended, Zee-Kee has shown encouraging signs of being able to remain calm around feline friends.
Around the house, Zee-Kee is affectionate without being demanding. He loves leaning into pets and has been known to happily sit right on someone's foot while soaking up attention. His foster describes him as a medium- to low-energy dog who enjoys a nice balance of playtime and relaxation. He entertains himself well with toys but is equally happy sharing quiet moments with his favorite people.
Zee-Kee has a wonderfully gentle spirit and continues to blossom with every new experience. He's the kind of dog who simply needs a little time to settle in before showing his affectionate, goofy personality. With his excellent house manners, growing confidence, love of toys, calm demeanor, and sweet nature, Zee-Kee is ready to become someone's loyal best friend.
