Meet Mickey! This handsome, 46 pound boy is full of wiggles and love! If you'll let him, Mickey will happily shower you with kisses and soak up all the affection he can get. We can already tell he's a friendly, sweet boy who loves spending time with his people. Mickey has decided that laps exist purely for bonding. Let him close the distance and he will be showering you with kisses and soaking up every bit of affection on offer. Friendly and sweet to the core, he's got a real gift for making his devotion obvious.
Mickey already knows "sit," appears to be house-trained at the shelter, and walks beautifully on leash. He's always happy to head out for a stroll, making him an easy companion for adventures or neighborhood walks.
Sweet Mickey hit the streets of Harbor East on a Dog's Day Out adventure with volunteers and boy did he shine! Of course everyone has heard of a "lap dog" but his new friends will tell you, Mickey is a LAP DOG. He spent so much time sitting in their laps asking for pets and cuddles. They LOVED IT and said " I have never met a more affectionate dog in my life!"
Mickey was an absolute joy to spend the day with. When they picked him up he strut his stuff right out the front door and hopped right into the car. He is a very good passenger, but does even better if he can look out the window with someone by his side. They went for a walk, sat by the water, did some birdwatching, and even ate some snacks. After some quick initial pulling, he walked so so so well on leash! There wasn't a park bench that they came across that he didn't take the chance to sit down and watch the world go by on. Along with knowing his name and answering to it, he is a master at "sit" and "stay", and he is incredibly gentle when taking treats/toys from your hands! Mickey didn't bat an eye while walking past other dogs, ducks, geese, other people, or bikes.
Mickey has been spending some time in a short-term foster home, and he's proving to be a fun-loving, affectionate companion who's ready to make himself right at home! This handsome boy is 100% housetrained and does wonderfully in his crate. He can comfortably spend a full workday crated, settling in with ease. While he's a little too mischievous to have free roam just yet, he's making great progress and already knows "sit," "down," and is working on "stay."
Mickey is a social butterfly who absolutely adores people. Whether he's meeting men, women, or soaking up attention from everyone at PetSmart, he greets new friends with enthusiasm and a wagging tail. He can get excited enough to jump when someone is equally excited to meet him, but he redirects well and is eager to please. His foster says he's happiest when he's close to his people-he'll happily snuggle beside you and often rests a paw on you, even while he's sleeping.
He's an active, playful pup who loves rope toys, his favorite wishbone toy, and any opportunity to play. On walks, Mickey does pull a bit at first, especially if something catches his attention, but he settles down as the walk continues. He's friendly with everyone he passes and enjoys saying hello to new people.
Like many young dogs, Mickey is still learning how to manage his excitement. When he becomes overstimulated, he may grab the leash or become a little mouthy to seek attention, but with continued training and guidance, he's already showing he's a smart dog who loves to learn. Mickey is looking for an active family that will continue helping him build confidence and polish his manners while enjoying all the love, laughter, and cuddles he has to offer. If you're searching for a playful best friend who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Mickey can't wait to meet you!
Mickey has met other pups at BARCS and playful and rowdy with his pals favorite friends! He would like to meet any potential doggie roommates to be sure they are a good match.
