Meet Chevy! This handsome boy is sure to steal your heart-just wait until you see those adorable folded-over ears! Chevy is a fun-loving, wiggly goofball who keeps everyone smiling with his hilarious personality. He loves rolling around in the play yard, chasing a tennis ball, and entertaining himself by running around and flopping over with it. Underneath the antics is a genuinely affectionate dog. Chevy gravitates toward his people, always looking for an excuse to pause for a cuddle or lean into a good scratch. Time with his humans is clearly his favorite part of the day.
Chevy is easy to leash up and enjoys his walks, especially when there are snack breaks along the way-this food-motivated boy never says no to a treat! He also loves pausing for a few extra snuggles and pets from his favorite people. Friendly, engaging, and always happy to spend time with his humans, Chevy is an all-around good boy who's ready to find a family to laugh, play, and make memories with.
Chevy has enjoyed several Dogs Day Out adventures with volunteers, and has proven to be a wonderful companion! This sweet, happy boy loved spending the day exploring Fort McHenry, where he walked nicely on leash, took time to roll in the grass, and happily played with his toys between sightseeing breaks. Chevy enjoyed a hiking day, then used his great communication skills (laying down in the cool grass) to let his new friend know he was ready to take it indoors for some air conditioned play time. He played with ALL the toys and enjoyed a game of fetch. He eventually tired himself out with the toys and fell asleep on them. Chevy was a gentleman and sat for his treats and for getting leashed up. He took his treats gently, had no accidents, and although he was curious to the "other people" noises in the condo building, he did not bark. He was very friendly with her husband when he came through the front door.
On another outing he enjoyed an outing to a park with a family. This boy checked all the boxes. Kids, check! Manners, check! Chickens, check! He loved climbing rocks at Cox Point Park, lazily watching a family grilling (he seemed really interested in kiddos in a positive way), and then coming home with them for some fenced yard time and a nap in the AC. He starts off more interested in everything around him than in you, but once he is confident he begins approaching for play and pets and napped on the bed with his new friends really sweetly. He saw the resident dog through a gate in another room and was interested but not reactive. He checked out the chickens in their coop but wasn't very interested after 5 minutes.
Chevy loved playing ball! When his new friends went in and out a few times he came to the door to wait a minute and one time gave two very quiet barks. That's it!! He ate with them sitting nearly at his level and was completely polite about food. He met an 8 year old child rand was 100% perfect gentleman! Chevy seemed to adjust his energy to be extra gentle. Paws on the ground, he showed him his ball and happily and calmly accepted pets. He checked out another kid's bedroom and politely greeted and sniffed around. He had no accidents while inside. He gets excited in car rides so a harness and seatbelt will ensure his safety. 100% awesome boy!!
Chevy has excellent manners-he already knows "sit," takes treats with the gentlest mouth, and is always eager to earn praise (and a snack!). To top off his perfect outing, he made a stop at Miss Twist, where he enthusiastically gave their pup cups a 10/10 paws-up review! Chevy is the kind of dog who makes every outing a little brighter. Whether you're looking for a walking buddy, an adventure partner, or simply a best friend to share life's little moments with, Chevy is ready to fill your days with smiles.
Chevy enjoyed an overnight sleepover with a volunteer, and it sounds like he made himself right at home! He is housetrained and settled in beautifully. At bedtime, he cried in his crate for just a few minutes before falling asleep for the rest of the night, and later happily snoozed in bed with his foster family.
This playful boy's absolute favorite thing in the world is fetch! Whether it was at the park or in the house, Chevy was happiest chasing after a ball and playing with his durable toys. Watching him light up during a game of fetch was easily the most memorable part of his sleepover. When playtime was over, he was content to relax and enjoy being close to his people, showing off his sweet, easygoing personality.
Chevy walked wonderfully on leash with no reactivity and met the volunteer's husband without any issues. Even when neighborhood dogs barked excitedly at him, he remained calm and unfazed. He did seem interested in small animals on his outings.
Chevy is still getting the hang of playing with other dogs, and he likes polite and gentle friends. He does best with the ladies and would like to meet any potential roommates to be sure they are a good match.
Whether you need a walking partner, an adventure buddy, or just a happy face waiting at the door, Chevy is ready to bring some joy into your home. Visit BARCS to meet him!
I'm a VIP because I'm still learning, and the shelter can be a tough place for dogs like me to shine. But I've got a whole team cheering me on!
Here are a few things the staff and volunteers are helping me with:
· Feeling less stressed/fearful in my kennel
· Getting more comfortable meeting new people
· Learning to make the right dog friends at the right pace
· Learning that the world isn't so scary
· Getting more comfortable with rest time in my kennel or other safe space
· Keeping my paws on the ground and learning polite ways to show I'm excited
If you're patient and open-hearted, I could be your best friend. I'm available for either adoption or foster-both will help me tremendously! When you visit, a staff member can walk you through what's been working for me and how you can keep the progress going at home.
