Meet Nebula, a beautiful 55-pound girl with a playful spirit, a clever mind, and a heart full of love to give. Whether she's exploring the outdoors, carrying around her favorite tug toy, or curling up beside you for belly rubs, Nebula is happiest when she's spending time with her people.
Since moving into her foster home, Nebula has shown what a wonderful companion she can be. She's settled into home life beautifully and has proven to be calm and easygoing when left alone. She relaxes quietly in her crate while her foster is away and is often still lounging peacefully when they return, patiently waiting to be let out.
Nebula has also done very well with housetraining. She had a few accidents during her first day while learning a new routine, but since then she's had only a couple more-one of which happened during a severe storm when she couldn't be taken outside. With consistency, she's settling in nicely and continues to make great progress.
One of Nebula's favorite things is simply being close to her people. She's incredibly affectionate and loves snuggling on the couch, soaking up belly rubs, and spending quality time with her family. Her foster describes her as clever, playful, and wonderfully cuddly-the kind of dog who is just as happy relaxing beside you as she is enjoying a fun play session.
Nebula loves playing tug with her fabric toys and enjoys bursts of zoomies before happily settling down again. She's already mastered "sit" and has recently learned "touch" (hand targeting), showing just how smart and eager to learn she is. She responds well to positive reinforcement and has already begun working with BARCS' training resources to continue building new skills.
On walks, Nebula enjoys exploring and taking in all the sights and smells. She may pull occasionally and is currently working on loose-leash walking. She is highly reactive to other dogs and small animals while on leash, so she'll do best with an adopter who is committed to continuing her positive reinforcement training and helping her build confidence around distractions. Despite this challenge, she's making good progress and enjoys learning alongside her person.
When it comes to people, Nebula is a sweetheart. She recently welcomed a woman visiting her foster home with a friendly, happy attitude. She's affectionate with new people and quickly enjoys making new friends.
Nebula has also shown an incredibly resilient and gentle personality. Loud thunderstorms and fireworks don't seem to bother her at all, but her foster noticed that she can be sensitive to raised voices. After being startled by a louder-than-intended correction, she briefly sought comfort in her crate before happily returning for reassurance and playtime just minutes later. She clearly responds best to patient, gentle guidance and positive encouragement.
Because of her leash reactivity, Nebula would likely do best as the only pet or with very careful introductions to any future canine companions. She has not lived with cats or children in her foster home, so her compatibility with them is unknown at this time. She has previously enjoyed playful interactions with select dogs at BARCS and would like to meet any potential dog roommates to ensure they're a good match.
If you're looking for a dog who is equal parts playful adventure buddy and affectionate cuddle companion, Nebula may be your perfect match. With continued positive training, a patient adopter, and plenty of love, this smart, snuggly girl is sure to blossom into an incredible lifelong companion. Nebula is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
