Meet Kano! His former family described him as sweet, playful, and wonderful with children, including kids as young as 3 years old. This handsome boy is an affectionate, eager-to-please companion who loves nothing more than spending time with his people. Kano arrived at the shelter underweight and currently weighs about 30 pounds, but he's steadily working toward a healthy weight while enjoying plenty of good food, love, and care in foster.

Kano has been settling beautifully into his foster home and continues to show what a lovable, affectionate companion he is. He's making excellent progress with housetraining and has quickly learned wonderful household manners. This smart boy has mastered "wait," knows to stay out of the kitchen when asked, has learned "down," recently added "spin" to his growing list of tricks, and is now beginning to learn "bow." He's also learning to patiently wait in his crate and continues working on "leave it." Thanks to consistent positive reinforcement, his jumping has become almost nonexistent. Kano is incredibly food motivated, eager to learn, and loves having a job to do.

This sweet boy is happiest when he's with his people. His foster says he may just be the cuddliest dog they've ever met, happily curling up for hours, resting his head in your lap, and following his favorite humans everywhere they go. Affectionately nicknamed "Himbo," Kano has quickly stolen hearts with his goofy, loving personality. His foster describes him as a dog who "loves harder than any dog should." If he could merge with his people, he probably would! He has an adorable habit of looking up at you with nothing but love in his eyes while resting his head in your lap, and when he's ready for a little quiet time, he'll even tuck himself into his crate for a nap.

Kano loves enrichment activities and has a wonderfully playful side. Food puzzles remain one of his favorite ways to spend time, especially during hot weather when outdoor adventures are a little shorter. He also enjoys stuffed Kongs, bully sticks, rolling happily in the grass, carrying around his beloved stuffed alligator, gently suckling on his favorite toys, sniffing through homemade snuffle mats, and fishing ice cubes out of his Kong. He recently enjoyed exploring Double Rock Park and continues to thrive when given opportunities to use both his brain and his body.

When left home alone, Kano has made impressive progress. While thunderstorms and fireworks can make him a little nervous, his foster has discovered that turning on the television helps him relax, and he settles quickly once he feels secure. His confidence continues to grow as he becomes more comfortable with his routine.

On walks, Kano is curious about the world around him and enjoys taking in all the sights and smells. He can still pull with excitement and may bark when he sees unfamiliar people or dogs, but he's highly food motivated and redirects easily with treats. His foster has been working consistently on loose-leash walking and engagement, and Kano is eager to learn and continues making steady progress.

Kano absolutely adores people. He's wonderful with women and children, and while unfamiliar men may occasionally make him pause for a moment, he warms up quickly with a little patience. This week he met his foster's uncle, aunt, and their children, and he had an absolute blast soaking up attention from everyone. He happily asked each family member for pets before eventually deciding he'd had enough excitement and quietly putting himself to bed in his crate for some alone time-a great example of how well he can settle when he needs a break.

Kano enjoys playing with the resident senior dog but sometimes gets a little too enthusiastic and is still learning to recognize when another dog has had enough. Because of this, he would likely thrive either as the only pet or with a playful, patient dog who enjoys his energetic style and can help him continue developing his social skills. He requests to meet any resident dogs to ensure they're a good match. More recently, his foster has also observed that Kano is reactive toward the resident cat, so he may do best in a cat-free home.

His medium energy level strikes a wonderful balance. He enjoys walks, sniffing adventures, training sessions, enrichment games, and playtime, but he's equally content spending hours snuggled beside his favorite humans. On especially hot days, his foster has found creative indoor activities that keep him mentally engaged and help him settle beautifully afterward.

Above all else, Kano is an incredibly sweet, loyal boy who simply wants to be close to his people. Whether he's resting his head in your lap, rolling happily in the grass, carrying around his stuffed alligator, or following you from room to room, Kano's favorite place is right by your side. If you're looking for an affectionate best friend who will shower you with love, happily be your constant shadow, and make you laugh every day, Kano may just be your perfect match.

Kano is currently thriving in the comfort of a foster home while he waits for his forever family. If you're interested in meeting him, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
