Meet Turbo Spud, also known as Mama-a sweet, gentle girl who is winning hearts with her curious personality and loving nature. Turbo Spud can be a little shy when meeting new people, but she warms up more quickly every day with a little patience, kind words, and (of course) a few treats. Once she feels comfortable, her affectionate, playful personality shines, and it's impossible not to fall in love with her.
Turbo Spud is currently thriving in a foster home, where she has blossomed into a completely different dog from the timid girl who first arrived. While she initially looked to her foster for reassurance and was cautious about unfamiliar things, she has grown dramatically in confidence. She still approaches new situations thoughtfully, but she bounces back much more quickly and lets far fewer things shake her confidence. Her foster says she's become the perfect combination of relaxed indoors and playful outside-a well-mannered companion who simply wants to be part of the family.
Turbo Spud has excellent house manners. She is fully housetrained and crate trained and settles nicely when left alone. Although she's become a little slower to head into her crate now that her foster's work schedule has changed, she settles quickly after a brief whine and is always calm when her family returns. In fact, her foster jokes that Turbo Spud's biggest complaint is simply that she misses her people. Lately she's even started "hiding" whichever shoes her foster plans to wear to work-a hilarious and endearing attempt to convince her favorite person to stay home instead.
One of Turbo Spud's favorite things is simply being close to the people she loves. While she politely stays off the furniture, she's almost always nearby, happily resting beside her family. If someone sits on the floor, she'll immediately join them, often resting her head-or even placing a gentle paw-on them for extra closeness. Her foster describes her as an affectionate shadow who simply wants to be wherever her people are.
On walks, Turbo Spud is eager to explore and loves sniffing every interesting scent along the way. She walks nicely on leash overall and enjoys getting out for adventures so much that she has even started bringing her leash to her foster, hoping they'll head out together. The recent heat wave has kept many of her outings shorter than she'd prefer, but Turbo Spud would happily vote for a long walk every single day.
She generally greets new people with her friendly personality and enjoys making new friends. A recent crowded adoption event proved to be a little overwhelming, with the combination of tight spaces, hot weather, unfamiliar dogs, and lots of activity causing her to become more reactive than usual. Outside of that stressful environment, however, she has continued to warm up to new people more quickly and remains a sweet, social girl who enjoys positive interactions.
As she's settled into foster life, Turbo Spud's playful personality has continued to blossom. She loves fetch, enjoys playing with balls, rope toys, and chew bones, and gets the cutest little tippy-tap dance whenever she gets excited. She's also learning new skills and already knows "sit," "stay," "down," and "bed," while continuing to practice staying calm and consistent when excitement gets the better of her.
Turbo Spud still has a few funny quirks that make her even more lovable. Fly swatters remain her greatest nemesis thanks to the funny noises they make, and she's slowly working up the courage to accept the mysterious balloons in the basement that she once viewed as suspicious intruders. With patience and encouragement, she's learning that maybe those balloons aren't so scary after all.
Turbo Spud has a wonderfully balanced energy level. She's calm, respectful, and easy to live with inside the home, but always ready for playtime or outdoor adventures when the opportunity arises. Her foster says she's become an incredible family companion whose sweet personality, excellent manners, and unwavering devotion make her a joy to have around.
Turbo Spud has also met other dogs at the shelter. She can be a little shy at first and appreciates thoughtful introductions before showing her playful side, so she'd like to meet any potential canine roommates before heading home.
