Arlo is a sweet and gentle boy who arrived at BARCS when his family could no longer care for him. In his previous home, Arlo was described as friendly, playful, and housebroken. He can be crated, enjoys going on walks, and loves playing with toys. He has also done well with children ages 7-12, where he was playful and social, though sometimes a little jumpy when excited.
Here at the shelter, Arlo has been a gentle and quiet boy. He walks nicely on leash, knows "sit," "down," and "paw," and happily accepts treats while soaking up affection. Though a little nervous as he adjusts to shelter life, he is showing us more of his personality every day. Once he warms up he's an affectionate companion who would love nothing more than to curl all 70 pounds up in your lap for pets.
This handsome boy spent time in a temporary foster home, where he showed just how wonderful of a friend he can be. Arlo has excellent manners around the home. He is the perfect mix of laid-back and active-equally happy lounging around the house all day or joining you for a jog or outdoor adventure. Wherever you are, Arlo likes to be nearby, often choosing a spot right next to his person to relax. One of his cutest quirks is that when you sit on the ground, he'll often try to plop himself right on top of you for extra closeness!
On walks, Arlo is easy to handle and shows no reactivity to other animals. He may occasionally pull toward something interesting, but he responds well and quickly checks back in when his handler stops. Arlo is a sensitive soul who can be startled by loud noises or people who suddenly appear from around corners. Because of this, he would likely thrive in a home that understands his gentle nature and can help him continue building confidence. He isn't much of a toy enthusiast, but offer him some cheese and you'll quickly have his full attention!
Arlo attended busy adoption events at Camden Yards and Petco, where he met lots of people, including children. He was a perfect gentleman, greeting his new fans with gentle tail wags and leaning in for all the pets. When he sat politely he even charmed a new friend into sharing his chicken nuggets with him! While he can be a bit shy and prefers not to be the center of attention, he handled the experience well. Arlo has also joined volunteers on few Dog's Day Out adventures, where he was described as "the chillest guy in town!" He's an easy car passenger - he hops right in and is ready to go! He strolled around some parks, went to a coffee shop, met some friends and enjoyed some windows down time in the car! Arlo is a chow hound, a good boy, and a cuddle bug!
Arlo has met other dogs at the shelter and seems to do best with gentle, polite canine friends. He would like to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. He peacefully coexists with the other dogs during outings and events.
This sweet boy is ready to find a loving home where he can continue to blossom at his own pace. Visit BARCS to meet Arlo!
