Say hi to Lakota, a sweet, affectionate, and energetic girl who plays hard, loves harder, and will absolutely beat you to fetch the tennis ball every single time. She is looking for an adventure buddy who loves a good play session just as much as a cozy wind-down, because she is equally great at both.
Lakota came to the shelter due to no fault of her own, and her former family shared that she is sweet, affectionate, and energetic. Lakota enjoys toys, snuggling, and playing with other dogs. She has interacted with children under 12 with supervision and was great. She is housebroken and can be crated when needed. She even behaves well at the vet!
Lakota enjoys her walks and loves getting attention from her people. She can sometimes be excited when she sees other dogs, but when things are calm, she does great on the leash and is a pleasure to walk. She likes to show off her "sit," "paw," and "down", and loves treats. She has a VERY patient "sit" and can wait forever with zero signs of impatience. She's so smart and attentive, and loves to learn. Training with her feels less like work and more like quality time.
Lakota lights up in the play yard like nowhere else, chasing tennis balls with full enthusiasm and a joyful, high-energy spirit that is impossible not to smile at. She is playful and active and will make you smile when she lets her personality shine!
Lakota spent some time in a short-term foster home where she showed everyone what a wonderful companion she can be. She settled into home life beautifully and quickly adapted to her new environment. With regular walks, structure, and a calm routine, Lakota blossomed into a relaxed, affectionate, and responsive dog.
One of the first things her foster noticed was how easy she was to live with. Lakota had no house-training issues and quickly learned the household routine. She enjoys spending time with her people but is also comfortable relaxing independently, often choosing a cozy spot on the couch for a nap.
Lakota is a smart girl who knows her name, responds well to commands, and enjoys working with her humans. She is eager to please and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts. Her foster described her as affectionate, attentive, and a dog who will make a wonderful addition to the right home.
She also spent time living alongside another dog and did very well with proper management and introductions. As the dogs settled in, they enjoyed tandem walks together and learned to comfortably share space. Lakota especially seemed to thrive with regular pack walks and opportunities to burn off energy, revealing the calm and easygoing dog underneath.
Most of all, Lakota's foster wants potential adopters to know just how special she is. She is loving, intelligent, well-mannered, and has all the qualities that make a fantastic companion. In their own words, "If we could keep her, we would." That's about as strong an endorsement as a dog can get.
Lakota is playful and rowdy with her friends and likes to play chase. She does best with socially savvy friends and will need to meet any potential roommates to be sure they are a good match. She may do best in a home without cats.

I'm a VIP because I'm still learning, and the shelter can be a tough place for dogs like me to shine. But I've got a whole team cheering me on!
