At 3 years old and 45 pounds, Shooting Star is exactly what her name suggests - bright, spirited, affectionate, and impossible not to love. This beautiful girl approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a heart full of love for the people around her. Whether she's proudly carrying around a favorite stuffed toy, practicing her training skills for treats, exploring the neighborhood on a walk, or curling up beside her favorite humans for snuggles, Star throws herself wholeheartedly into every experience. Her foster describes her as incredibly sweet, affectionate, food-motivated, and eager to connect, making her a rewarding companion for someone looking for a dog who truly loves being part of the family.
More than anything, Star is a people dog. She thrives on human companionship and wants to be included in daily life whenever possible. If given the choice, she would happily spend her day following her people from room to room, leaning against them on the couch, or resting her head in their lap while soaking up affection. She also loves snuggling with her foster's children. She forms strong bonds with the people she loves and has done wonderfully meeting new people while out and about. Men and women she meets are greeted with excitement, and she was especially sweet when introduced to a 3-year-old boy. Like many enthusiastic young dogs, she can jump up and become a little mouthy when she's excited, so her future family should be prepared to continue reinforcing polite greetings through positive training.
Star is an active but easygoing dog with a moderate to high energy level. She enjoys bursts of activity followed by long naps, making her the perfect adventure buddy who also appreciates downtime. She absolutely loves going for walks and recently proved what an incredible hiking companion she is during an outing to Sugarloaf Mountain. Her foster says she eagerly greeted fellow hikers along the trail, confidently scrambled over rocks with impressive agility, and then happily relaxed afterward at a dog-friendly restaurant. Whether you're exploring a new trail or enjoying a leisurely neighborhood stroll, Star is happiest when she's sharing the adventure with her favorite people.
She's highly food motivated and loves learning. Star already knows "sit" and is currently working on "down" and "leave it." Her eagerness to learn and please makes training enjoyable for both her and her people.
On walks, Star continues to make progress with her leash skills. She has improved overall, but she can still pull strongly and become very excited when she spots other dogs. With continued consistency and positive reinforcement, she's making steady strides and will continue to blossom.
Star enjoys the company of other animals and is very interested in making friends, though she sometimes doesn't realize not everyone shares her enthusiasm. She remains especially fascinated by the resident cats and would happily spend all day trying to interact with them. The good news is she's making progress-she can now calmly sit beside one of the cats with supervision while accepting treats, demonstrating that she's learning to settle around them. Because of her exuberant personality, she'd likely do best with a confident, dog-savvy cat or in a home without cats.
Star has also made nice progress with being left alone. She settles well when crated and has learned to relax after her foster leaves. However, she still experiences some separation anxiety throughout the day and truly prefers being close to her people. If she isn't crated, she may chew on household items or try to find creative ways to get back to her person by scratching at doors or even pushing past barriers or gates. A family committed to continuing her confidence-building routine and appropriate crate use when unsupervised will help her continue making positive progress.
She's continuing to work on her housetraining routine and has shown improvement, though she still has occasional accidents. Her foster notes that she doesn't always know how to signal when she needs to go outside unless she's already near the door, so her future family should be prepared to continue reinforcing a consistent potty schedule and helping her learn how to communicate her needs.
Above all, Shooting Star is an incredibly loving, affectionate, and trainable dog whose greatest joy is being near her people. She still has that fun, puppy-like zest for life, bringing laughter, adventure, and endless affection wherever she goes.
