Meet Langston, the kind of dog who makes himself feel like family from the moment he walks through the door. This handsome 55-pound sweetheart has the perfect blend of playful energy, gentle manners, and endless affection, making him an easy dog to fall in love with.
Langston may be a little timid at first, but he warms up quickly with treats, kind words, and a little baby talk. Once he trusts you, his affectionate side comes bursting out. His favorite activity in the entire world is being close to his people-preferably in their lap, covering them in kisses, or leaning against them for pets and snuggles. At heart, Langston is truly a giant puppy disguised as an adult dog.
Since settling into his foster home, Langston has continued to show what a wonderful companion he is. His foster describes him as a "big lap dog," and it's easy to see why. He loves lounging close to his people, quietly chewing on a bone, soaking up praise, and checking in for affection throughout the day. Calm, gentle, and eager to be included in whatever his family is doing, Langston has settled so seamlessly into home life that his foster says he truly checks all of the boxes for a wonderful family dog.
Langston has settled beautifully into home life and remains fully housetrained with no accidents. He quickly takes care of business when he goes outside and has become excellent at letting his family know when it's time for a potty break by standing at the back door, waiting by his leash, or pacing nearby with a little extra enthusiasm. He is also an absolute star in his crate. Langston happily walks in on cue, settles immediately with a frozen Kong or other enrichment toy, and is usually found peacefully snoozing when his family returns home. He has repeatedly spent full workdays comfortably crated without anxiety, destruction, or accidents, making him an easy fit for many households.
On walks, Langston is every bit the gentleman. He is a loose-leash walker who enjoys exploring at an easy pace without pulling. As his neighborhood became busier this week with neighbors out walking, children riding bikes, and even movers loading a moving truck, Langston calmly took everything in stride without reacting. He even encountered deer on one walk and either didn't notice them or simply wasn't concerned. His easygoing nature extends to car rides as well-he's a fantastic passenger who happily tags along on errands and settles quietly for the ride.
Langston continues to impress everyone he meets with his gentle, friendly personality. This week he welcomed his foster's parents into the home as though they'd always belonged there, greeting them calmly before happily soaking up extra pets, attention, and additional laps to curl up in. Having visitors over was a complete non-event for him, reinforcing what his foster has consistently observed: Langston is simply happy to make new friends and be part of the family. Langston also has positive experience with children as young as 4 years old. He has proven to be gentle and respectful of children.
This lovable boy is smart, eager to learn, and highly motivated by both food and praise. He already knows "sit," "paw," and "down," and he's making excellent progress on "stay" and "drop." Fetch remains one of his absolute favorite games, especially when tennis balls or his beloved Mammoth Chew King balls are involved. As a powerful chewer, durable toys are definitely the way to his heart.
When it's time to relax, Langston is happiest snuggled up beside his favorite people. His foster jokes that he's happiest acting as a "personal seatbelt," and it's an incredibly fitting description. Whether he's curled up in your lap, leaning against your legs, or simply following you from room to room, Langston thrives on being close to the people he loves. His medium energy level makes him the perfect balance of playful companion and laid-back cuddle buddy-happy to enjoy a game of fetch or a walk before settling in for an afternoon snooze.
Langston has met other dogs at BARCS and has shown that he can peacefully coexist with some dogs, including larger female dogs. He would like to meet any resident dogs before adoption to ensure a good match and may do best with appropriately matched canine companions who respect his space and allow relationships to develop gradually. He would do best in a home without small dogs.
One of Langston's most endearing qualities is how deeply connected he becomes to his people. Whether he's resting his head in your lap, riding along on errands, playing fetch in the yard, or quietly napping nearby, he simply wants to be wherever his family is. His foster continues to describe him as one of the easiest foster dogs they've ever cared for thanks to his wonderful manners, adaptable personality, and loving nature.
