Meet Dollop O' Daisy, a gentle giant who's ready for a fresh start in a patient, understanding home. Through no fault of her own, Daisy lost her home due to an eviction, and the shelter has been an incredibly overwhelming place for her. The noisy environment has left her feeling fearful and shut down, making it difficult for her true personality to shine. But after just a short time in a foster home, Daisy is already beginning to show that beneath her timid exterior is a sweet, loving dog who simply needs time to feel safe again.
In the home, Daisy has already made wonderful progress. She's reliably housetrained, sleeps quietly through the night, and can be left either crated or uncrated without being destructive. She prefers the comfort of being indoors and is happiest relaxing on a cozy blanket on the floor rather than a dog bed. While the outside world can still feel a little overwhelming, she'll happily go outside to take care of business, do a little sniffing, and then head right back inside where she feels most secure.
Although she's understandably nervous, Daisy genuinely wants to be near her people. She'll quietly choose to settle nearby and has already started offering soft tail wags as her confidence grows. She likes to approach new people on her own terms and appreciates gentle chin scratches and chest rubs more than pets over her head. Giving her the space to make the first move goes a long way, and she's already warming up much more quickly when people respect her pace.
Daisy is a big girl at around 90 pounds, but she doesn't use her size to her advantage. Rather than pulling on leash, she tends to show her stress through hesitation and uncertainty. So far, she has appeared non-reactive on walks and would likely thrive in a quieter neighborhood or home with fewer distractions while she continues building confidence.
One area her foster family is still figuring out is her appetite. Daisy has been quite particular about food, likely due in part to stress, but she's discovered that plain baked or boiled chicken is a favorite and happily takes her medication tucked inside. She often feels most comfortable eating overnight or when she's alone, another sign that she's still learning to relax in her new surroundings.
Daisy is finishing treatment for a mild respiratory illness and is expected to be medically cleared soon. As she continues to decompress, her foster family has already seen encouraging changes in just the first day-small tail wags, choosing to stay close to people, and settling more comfortably into a home routine. Every day brings another little victory.
