Foster Update: A few weeks can make such a difference in a dog! Little Miss Leah Bedeah has been coming out of her shell and it is so sweet to see! I would describe her vibe as "spunky little sister" - she's quick to trot around the house, following you from room to room just to see whatcha doin. She'll settle down to rest somewhere near you, and then hop up if it looks like you're going somewhere more fun. She does sometimes still get nervous of new things, but looks back for reassurance from her person or dog buddy to decide that she's not so scared after all. She regularly checks in for some pets, and rewards you with lots of kisses to just let you know she thinks you're the best.
And she's so smart! She's very treat-motivated, and in about three weeks she's learned sit, down, shake, and "touch" (aka, to boop my fingers with her nose), and now we're working on a spin and stay. Our training time hasn't been consistent, but she clearly loves learning and I think she'd be amazing in a class to grow her repertoire of tricks and build that confidence for her. She does great in her crate and keeps it clean, though we're working on not bursting out with an explosion of excitement when I get home. Her housebreaking has also been coming along - she goes immediately when we get outside, no indecision about the perfect spot. We're down to just the occasional accident every few days, mostly on the same dang rug, but we'll get there.
She is excellent with other dogs. A little shy upon initial meeting, but clearly interested without being overeager. Now that she's comfortable, she plays so well with my dog. She loves to be "it" in a game of chase and will initiate a wrestling match with him, but not too intensely. They take turns submitting to each other and do a great job of taking breaks and shaking off any stress from their tussles. She cuddles on the couch and sometimes in the oversized dog bed with him, not afraid of climbing or sitting on him to squeeze in - such a little sister move! She sneaks him ear kisses and huddles up with him now that the weather is getting chilly,
Leah is the sweetest little pea, just looking for her pod. I think she'd love a home with a canine best buddy and people who understand there's never a bad time to play a game of fetch. It takes so little to make her happy, and she's the kind of dog that just reflects any love and affection back to you tenfold.
