Kaleigh - Adoptable

March 2026
Our little princess is ready to find her new castle!

Kaleigh has come an incredibly long way since arriving at the Manor. She is literally unrecognizable. When she first came to us, she was an extremely sick little dog - battling infections and sores, with almost no hair and very little energy. Her immune system had really taken a beating. But after months of dedicated medical care, patience, and lots of love, she has blossomed into a happy, fun-loving girl who is always ready to go. Since arriving Kaleigh has had a full dental (including a few extractions), visited the Dermatology team at AVC, and even attended school to engage that significant brain! The result? A smart, sweet, lively companion who is ready to start the next chapter of her life. She is a 5 year old in a 9 year old's body.

Kaleigh absolutely adores her people. She is a very devoted companion who loves hard. She can take a few minutes to warm up to strangers, but once she decides you're part of her circle it's all good. At first there will be some barking to make sure you know she's on duty, but then she's right in for sniffs and pats.

She will definitely let you know when someone arrives at the door, so apartment living isn't the best fit for her. You'll get the most enthusiastic welcome when you come home, and she would happily join you on road trips - she loves the car. She'll also let you know when she needs to go outside and would be thrilled if you stayed out for a game of fetch.
While Kaleigh has learned to live with another small dog, she would do best as the only child so she can soak up all the attention. She is not good with cats. She can be reactive on leash, but responds well to redirection with treats. She enjoys her walks and may pull a little at first, but settles into a nice pace after a few minutes. Kaleigh likes to be the focus of your world, and after what she has been through she absolutely deserves some devotion.

Kaleigh does struggle with allergies. Her hair has grown back significantly, although there are still a few bald patches and it's not yet as thick as it should be. Her dermatologist has recommended a new medication that should help with the itching and encourage better hair growth. For now, she is following a treatment plan that includes weekly medicated baths, with the goal of gradually reducing these as her medications begin to do the heavy lifting. And because her allergies may be diet-related, Kaleigh is currently doing very well on a combination of vegetarian kibble and hydrolyzed wet food.

Kaleigh has been with us for many months, and we feel it is in her best interest to find her forever people before she becomes too bonded. So we are looking for a foster-to-adopt home until she is successfully transitioned to her new meds. During this time, we will continue to cover the costs of her medications, food, and veterinary care while we work together to get her as healthy as she can possibly be.

This little princess has come so, so far - now she just needs the right castle, and the right people, to live happily ever after.

No pets, no young children, no apartments.
