Because of this, he's looking for a patient and understanding family who will give him the time he needs to feel comfortable and confident. With consistency, Shelby begins to show his true personality: sweet and intelligent. He would thrive in an active home that can match his energy while also providing reassurance and support as he continues to grow. HOME TYPE:
House or Townhouse- Shelby is a sensitive boy who can be a bit nervous and mildly sound sensitive, so he would not be suited to a loud, busy apartment setting with lots of shared spaces. He has also shown some general and separation anxiety and may be vocal at times. Because of this, he will need a home where someone has plenty of time to help him slowly build confidence and become more comfortable being alone, at a pace that feels right for him.
CHILDREN:
Yes- Mid aged or older children (young children would not be a good fit) with previous dog experience potentially compatible.
CATS & SMALL ANIMALS:
Yes- cats potentially compatible with slow proper introduction.
OTHER DOGS:
Yes- Dogs potentially compatible
ACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL:
High; will need a lot of daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation.
HUMAN COMPATIBILTY:
Working/herding breed research is required prior to adoption and breed experience is an asset. Shelby can be an escape artist, so an adopter that is able to keep an eye on him and a secure home would be a must.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS:
At least two in-person training sessions to work on socialization, basic training, manners, sound desensitization, separation/general anxiety and reactivity.
HUMAN SOCIAL IN SHELTER:
Very human social once comfortable. Shelby is a very sweet and energetic and loves people! He learns quickly, especially when treats are involved.
FAVOURITE THINGS:
Loves playing with toys and chasing!
