Max is a happy, affectionate dog who truly thrives on human companionship. He's incredibly loyal and loves being close to his people, whether that means following you around the house or settling in for some quality cuddle time. He's smart, food-motivated, and eager to learn! Max has lots of energy and enthusiasm, especially when out and about, and would do well with an active family that can help channel his zest in positive ways.
When Max first arrived, he was a little worse for wear, but his fur has been growing in beautifully and he's clearly feeling happier and more confident each day. He's ready to leave shelter life behind and become someone's devoted companion.
If you're looking for a loving, people-oriented dog with a big heart, Max may be the perfect match!

FOSTER AND FIELD TRIP INSIDER INFO: (please note that dogs may behave different in foster's care than adopter's care and the following cannot be guaranteed)
HOUSE TRAINING:
If you exclude the first week, Max has had no bathroom incidents inside the home. He does ask to go out at the back door. I've left him alone outside of the crate in the house for upwards of 6 hours and he did great. He rarely counter surfs, but I have caught him a few times so leaving food on the countertop is not recommended.
CAR MANNERS:
Max likes to stick his nose out the window or lie down. He does bark from time to time. Max will need a seatbelt to keep him locked in the backseat as he has a tendency to want to be near/on you all the time.
LEASH MANNERS / ON WALK MANNERS:
Max is going to need some extra time and patience when it comes to walking on leash. As Max has gained weight and grown he's only gotten stronger and gained more energy. He just wants to go go go.
CRATE TRAINING:
Initially he hated it. Over time he has grown to accept it more and more if it's needed. He does go in on his own and chew on his bones/toys from time to time. I haven't attempted to crate him at night while I'm asleep, but he would 100% have to sleep in the same room as you if he were to.
KNOWN TRAINING CUES:
Sit, lay down, stay, no, out, and come here. He's very food motivated and intelligent.
HUMAN SOCIAL:
He loves human interaction and constantly seeks out affection. He loves pets and cuddles and doesn't have a harmful bone in his body. I can't walk 2 feet without him jumping up and walking right beside me. Within minutes, If I lay down on the couch he hops up and lays on top of me. All he wants to do is be with you 24/7. Max is one extremely loyal companion.
FOOD & TREATS:
There is nothing Max loves more than food. He's extremely food motivated and easy to train. He has instantly eaten anything I've ever tried to feed him. He loves food so much that you have to watch him 24/7 because he will put anything in his mouth. For example, I never thought I would have to worry about a frozen banana peel in the snow bank.... Wrong, Max will eat the banana peel.
