Some dogs are just lucky. They arrive at our shelter, find the perfect adopter in a matter of days, & then go on to live a happy & fulfilling life. But other dogs who are equally worthy & deserving of a second chance simply languish here for weeks, sometimes even years, because they are just down on their luck. Such is the case with our Biggie. Biggie was surrendered by owners who said they were moving to a rental home that did not allow dogs. But they claimed that they were trying to work out a way to reclaim Biggie, so they visited him every weekend at MLAR. Biggie was overjoyed to see them & got his hopes up, but in the end, his owners never came back for him & Biggie's hopes were dashed.
If you ask any of the volunteers, they will tell you Biggie is the biggest lover and the most fun to be with! He is totally housetrained and keeps his kennel run clean at all times with us. Biggie is a strong puller & needs a strong person to walk him, BUT.... if you have a fenced yard, you will never have to walk him at all. This big, strong dog with the sweet, gentle heart gets all the exercise he needs in a fenced yard. He can entertain himself for hours in the fenced yard as he cavorts & chases a ball or squeak toy. Biggie treasures his stash of toys that the volunteers have bought him. And he will play fetch with you if you feel like throwing a ball. Biggie, with his huge blockhead & an ear-to-ear grin, is very interactive with everyone he meets. He just loves all people instantly. Biggie is sweet, goofy, playful, joyous, full of fun & good spirits. What would change Biggie's bad luck? A home with a fenced yard & one in which he would be the only dog, older children or no children (he would love little ones, but he might be too much for them), & people who would be committed to giving Biggie the time, love, & patience that so many of our luckier dogs have gotten. If you would like to meet Biggie, please ask to see him in a fenced yard with his treasured toys. Despite all of his bad luck, he is still very joyful & hopeful that some good people will take notice of him. His lucky day will absolutely be your lucky day too!
