Charming Chickadee is chirping for you!

Chickadees are popular North American birds with distinctive black markings. These cute little creatures charm people with their curiosity and friendliness. Our charming Chickadee caught the attention of some kind souls who rescued him from the outdoors and brought him to a local municipal shelter. He might not know how to fly because he has sleek black fur instead of feathers (and because he's a cat), but his rescue flight landed at EHS, where he is now adjusting to the benefits of indoor life.

Right now, Chickadee is somewhat nervous and apprehensive when first approached. Although he is beginning to move around in his kennel more, he prefers to watch what is going on around him from the security of his cubby. When things are quiet he may even be found playing on his own, so there appears to be potential for him to enjoy some fun and games as his confidence grows. He would like to tell you that unlike his namesake he is not very fond of sunflower seeds, but he will often lick tube treats from the back-scratcher and sometimes even from a finger when he's feeling brave!

Although Chickadee may give a little hiss or swat if he's not ready for attention, he doesn't seem to mind if volunteers sit quietly with him. Chickadee is still unsure about hand pets, but he does respond to slow blinks and being spoken to softly. Chickadee has shown some interest in his shelter mates, so it's possible he may like a feline friend in his new home.

Chickadee is a skittish cat who has had minimal experience with humans. He is currently enrolled in EHS's socialization program, where dedicated volunteers are working to help him become more comfortable around people. There have been many successful graduates from this program, but potential adopters should be prepared to commit the time, effort, and patience required to help Chickadee along this journey. It should be noted that while some skittish cats might remain reserved, others may express their trust and affection in a variety of ways. A skittish cat will benefit from a calm, quiet environment, preferably without small children. EHS will provide post-adoption support to assist Chickadee with a successful transition to his forever home.
