I know I may not be the first dog to run up to you with tail wags and kisses. I'm a little more cautious than that. The world has felt big and a bit overwhelming to me, and I'm still learning that not every sound or movement is something to be scared of. But underneath my nerves is a heart full of love, just waiting for someone patient enough to earn it. I'm sure you know what anxiety is like. Feeling unsettled, unsure, and untrusting. Except, you can rationalize that way easier than I can..
Once I feel safe, I'll start to bloom - quietly, beautifully. I'll gently lean into your side, follow you around, wag my tail when you talk to me. I do like people, especially the kind ones who move slowly and give me a chance to sniff, think, and choose trust in my own time.
I'd love a calm, quiet home - somewhere where someone sees me, really sees me, and is willing to advocate for me as I keep learning the world is okay. Older, respectful kids would be just fine, and a confident, gentle dog friend could be a great companion to help show me the ropes. I do struggle with sharing my special things sometimes, so I'll need someone who understands that I'm not being "bad," just still figuring things out.
I'm not perfect - but I am perfectly worthy of love.
