At Misfit Manor it's important to us to meet the dog's where they are at. To never put them in situations they are not able to deal with emotionally or have not been properly "trained" to handle. Each dog's journey is their own as we allow them to lead the way forward. For Piper, her journey has had many chapters already. She has been in our care for over 2 years and prior to coming to us, had already been put in many situations she didn't know how to deal with or process. This meant in addition to the lengthy heartworm treatment she required she also needed a lot of time to decompress. Observe. Learn to trust. Trust that humans had her back. Trust that she would be okay if she dared to relax. Trust that life was good. In that time we have seen some significant changes in her. She was incredibly withdrawn, unresponsive and avoided human interaction completely. Over time, her personality has evolved tremendously. With gradual steps we have slowly helped her become more engaged with the people and animals she shares her home with. By keeping her environment and schedule safe and stable she has grown to slowly express her true self. People tend to concentrate on where dogs came from instead of where they are going. Piper needs someone who can see her future with her. A home that is prepared to continue on this trend of allowing Piper her space, physically and emotionally to move forward when she is ready. It will take her time to accept a new person(s) with multiple visits prior to an adoption. Her ideal home will have a fully fenced and secure yard for her. Piper is equipped with a Traktive GPS collar to ensure her safety while allowing her some freedom. Lots of comfortable places to relax indoors. An ability to understand and respect her subtle cues and respect that Piper may always cling to her independent nature and not become a cuddly dog. Although she may shy away from people, Piper looks forward to meals and will even take treats from the hand of a select few trusted humans. She loves the snow and it's pure joy watching her frosty frisky freak outs. And look out Broadway this girl can sing! She lives very harmoniously with other cats and dogs although does not play with them. Tractive GPS collar included with Piper's adoption. Monthly subsciption to be assumed by adopter.
