Meet Bruno ...or "Bruins" as we like to call him. This sweet old boy will just melt your heart the moment you lay eyes on him. He will draw you in with those big brown eyes and sweet demeanor. He will probably come up and nudge your hand to rub his big soft ears, then if you stop he will gently and lovingly nudge you again. Bruins LOVES laying in the sun and resting. He loves to go on walks even though he shouldn't go on long walks because of his knees. He is a VERY, very low maintenance dog. Honestly he will just sleep and eat. We need someone who financially can afford his pain meds for the rest of his life. He would benefit on a good quality dog food. He would do well in a home with no BIG active dogs or rowdy puppies. He's very fragile in the sense that if he gets bumped into, he sometimes has his back feet go out from under him. He needs a house with NO STAIRS or just maybe only 1-3 to go out to go potty. He can't go upstairs nor downstairs to the basement. He should be on one level the entire time. Bruno has been around lots and lots of dogs. He has shown no aggression. He's also been around cats and has no problem with them. Even though he's older, we strongly believe Bruno will bring you so much love into your heart and home. He will do best in a home with no YOUNG children because of his age and his eyesight and hearing are that of a 10 year old dog. We wouldn't want any sharp movements or sudden falls from a baby to startle him. If you find yourself at home a lot and not going many places and you want company, Bruno could be your perfect companion. He will lay by your side all day long and just want food and love in return.
Bruno is housebroken. He does not need to be crated. When he came to SAAP in January 2021 he was VERY thin. With some love and TLC he gained weight and looks so much better. He tolerates the car but he should only go in the car if needed. He won't benefit from joy rides. And the reason for that is because of his extreme arthritis. It's painful for him to get in and out of a car. And he tends to stand in the car vs lying down which just causes more discomfort for his back legs. Bruno is an AMAZING dog! He has a lot of love to give. If you're wanting a super easy, low maintenance dog that wants to rest, eat and go for a short walk, Bruno is your man!
