Special Needs
Gretel lived, near feral, in a pen for the first 9 months of her life and as a result she's a bit under socialized. Gretel is an unassuming, large breed dog. She is not particularly active. She walks exceptionally well on a leash and is near housebroken and non-destructive. She would do best in a quiet home with an inactive family or low-activity family. She does not particularly enjoy new places, though she rides well in a car crate. She does get carsick (a bit of drooling). Gretel is crate trained but prefers soft furniture. Her foster would really like to see her go to an elderly or adult person or couple who are looking for a large breed dog. I would not recommend her to a family with children or planning to have children. Her first instinct when scared is to freeze and do nothing and, as a result, it would be entirely too easy for her to become overwhelmed and somebody not versed in her behavior to assume that things are going well because she will not remove herself from a stressful situation. She is neutral to curious about other medium sized dogs and has tested to be neutral to cats as well. We are not sure how she is with small dogs yet.
