Kodiak is a handsome 2.5 year old Alaskan Malamute / Shepherd mix who is around 95lbs and working to continue to lose weight in his foster home.

Kodiak is a sweetheart but consistent with breed characteristics can be very stubborn and tries to use his size along with grumbles and growls to get his way.

Like many SAAP dogs he will resource guard high value items so he should be given bones, toys, and food separately from other dogs. Kodiak is incredibly smart but sometimes uses his brain for mischief. He sometimes takes and guards items (eg socks or shoes) for negative attention but will give them up quickly if ignored and he is never destructive with them. He loves puzzles, toys, and activities that challenge his brain in a positive way.

He plays well with dogs of all sizes and communicates when he would like to play and stop. Kodiak currently has a foster brother but jealous behaviors so would likely do best as an only dog in the home but would love dog friends for play dates!

Kodiak does not like to be confined or crated but is responsible outside the crate as long as trash is secure and food items put away.

Kodiak has learned to love walks on his weight loss journey and after an initial period of walk excitement he walks phenomenally on a leash.

Large dog or breed experience (husky or malamute) preferred as Kodiak needs a strong leader and clear
