Purdy, originally Dirty but he deserved a fresh name and start, came to us on August 19, 2019. Yes that is correct he has been here over a year! He was surrendered to our Animal Control Officer. Before coming to us he had been in and out of a few homes already. Purdy was only with the last person for a week. Purdy was nervous and unsure of just about everyone when he first arrived at the shelter. We started bringing him out to playgroups. As he started getting used to us and the routine here. Once Purdy settled in we started to see tons of personality come out. This quirky, goofball of a dog was starting to thrive right in front of us. We could only imagine what he was coming from if this environment was comfortable and happy for him. He likes to play pranks on people and joke around. He is endless entertainment.
That being said he needs someone who is willing to teach him what pranks are okay and appropriate to play on people. He needs someone to make him take life seriously while he teaches them to enjoy the little moments. He enjoys playing with mostly female dogs but doesn't always like to share his humans. Kids must be older than 16 years old. Men can be a little scary for him at first but once he learns they won't hurt him he warms up. His previous owner was a man and we are unsure of what happened between the two of them. Purdy may take a minute or two to warm up to you. He loves treats but can be picky, Beggin' Strips are where its at. He enjoys walks and play time, especially a nice game of keep away. He is very vocal during play time as well. His favorite toy happens to be empty water bottles. He will be a fabulous companion for someone who is willing to put in the time.

I am not only available for adoption but I can participate in our Dog Day Out program! This means you can come up to the shelter, bring your license, and take me out for the day! I just have to return before 4:30. Some stipulations include no dog parks or other dog to dog interactions on our outing and approved people food only. We can go to pet stores, Lowe's, Rural King, parks or even to your home! For my Dog Day Out I have given the humans some dos and don'ts. Do: give me treats, pets, walks and maybe even some toy time. Mostly treats and pets though. Don't: touch my tail or grab my collar those things scare me!

This means when he heads home he will need time to decompress and settle in before feeling fully like it is his home.
